Litter...which kind? - 2007/09/12 22:50What kind of litter should I use inside my hedgie's litter box? I bought a litter box that came with a next to useless scooper and litter, but the litter (Sorbent I think is the name...I don't remember...) it scented (lavender right now) and was wondering if this would bother him? I know it all depends on the hedgie himself, but is there like a respitory thing I should be worried about if it is scented?

Re:Litter...which kind? - 2007/09/13 06:58I read it was a petsmart exclusive and when I went to the site this is what I got:
This product is no longer available. Continue shopping at PetSmart . SOFT SORBENT SCENTS KayteeŽ Soft-Sorbent Lavender Scented Bedding This bedding is blended with the perfect amount of real, aromatic flowers to bring a pleasant air to your small pet's home.
Sort of makes me wonder if they had some sort of problem with it?
Some people use paper towels, others use superpet small animal litter, or litters like that. You want something non-clumping, not dusty, not perfumey, etc.Ann Connecticut Hedgehogs

Re:Litter...which kind? - 2007/09/13 08:49....[Decloaking long enough to answer this one].....My daughter uses SoftSorbent for her mice. It is made by KayTee and I think I've only seen it at PetSmart. Besides the lavender (which we've never tried) there's also some pink kind (ditto) and just plain, which we buy in large bags. It's cheaper than Carefresh and virtually dust-free. It's kind of like soft paper nuggets -- not quite as cozy for burrowing as Carefresh or something like that but not dusty and not smelly. We don't use it for Leona (Leona Frances, the hedgehog) but I don't know why you couldn't.

Re:Litter...which kind? - 2007/09/13 10:58Ok great just wondering...hopefully it isn't discontinued from petsmart...because I prefer it over the wood shavings that I find I often got splinters from with my guinea pigs when I used it for them...

Cat litter (clumping is bad, and I recommend not using clay or ctystals) Cedar Corn Cob

Re:Litter...which kind? - 2007/09/13 12:33Actually, I'd try the punch if nobody had stirred it with their pinky finger.
I just remembered I buy the SoftSorbent at Petco, not PetsMart.
