Boys or Girls? - 2007/10/01 15:25 I don't own a hedgehog yet, but I'm hoping some veterans out there will be able to help me figure this out.

Are there any noticeable behavioral differences between the two? Especially when it comes to social aspects?

Re:Boys or Girls? - 2007/10/01 17:45 Well, being an experienced hedgehog owner for OVER 2wks now, I would say that their is no real difference (although having never actually even met a female hedgie, my opinion may.... or may not be.... er... correct....lol).

Seriously, reading other threads on this and other forums, I think whether you opt for male or female is more down to preference rather than any major character differences.

Re:Boys or Girls? - 2007/10/01 19:22 thanks for the very *informative* response.

You're right. It seems so far the slight differences that I've read about have been:

1. males cannot be kept in groups and some females can
2. males can occasionally be cleaner
3. the obvious physical differences

personality traits as far as being friendly, outgoing, energetic, inquisitive etc. seem to be pretty much the same for each sex and just differ from one animal to the next. Keep in mind.. that I don't actually own a hedgehog yet and that these are mainly things that I've read on this forum. If I'm wrong about any of these please let me know!

You are right They truly are individuals and each one has its own personality regardless of its sex.
