speckled skin?! - 2007/10/02 08:39 for some odd reason, i was looking at the color between Penelope's quills last night. i noticed that not all of the skin on her back where the quills grow is dark. i can imagine that if all her quills are gone, she's look like some marbled... thing. also, i noticed that interspersed with the dark banded chocolate colored quills, there are a lot of pure white ones. about 10% of her quills are pure white. does the skin underneath each quill determine the color of the quill growing out of it? Re:speckled skin?! - 2007/12/28 19:10 I think that's the mottled skin which charicterises the algerian colors. I was wondering the same thin about the all white uills on my girl. She's an algerian gray from what I've been told.

Re:speckled skin?! - 2008/01/24 00:58 If the hedgehog is pintoed, there will be a pink patch of skin underneath the white quills of the pinto spot. For snowflakes, you won't see the pink patches because its only a quill here and there.

The "marbling" of the skin (I like that description) is just a pigmentation and is normal, and commonly an Algerian trait.
