mother hedgehogs - 2007/10/03 09:15 Morning hedgehog lovers -
I'm a newbie and am considering purchasing a hedgehog or two. I have been reading everything I can about them to make an informed purchase. I want to be prepared

I am close enough to breeders in neighboring states that I could make the drive as well - woohoot!

I am in love already

! I have a couple questions.

Question #1 - What are hedgehogs closely related to in the animal kingdom?
Question #2 - I read somewhere on the internet that if you breed your hedgehogs, you should be prepared for the change in the female's temperment. I do understand maternal protectiveness while gestating and nursing. Is this temperment change permanent?

Like a lot of other things, it depends on the individual hedgehogs personality and temperment. Ann

Re:mother hedgehogs - 2007/10/04 16:35 If you've never owned a hedgehog before, do yourself a huge favor and own one for awhile before considering breeding. Talk to a breeder and get yourself a male, because males can breed for a longer period of time then females. If you've owned the animal for a considerable period of time and still enjoy it, then look into breeding.

I was just curious about females changing personalities. I had read that quite a while ago and was confused about it. I didn't read it anywhere else. So I was wondering if it was a really big deal, or just a little deal. I guess you pays your money and you takes your chances. Every little hedgehog is unique.

But as for the temperment thing, i dont think it would have any longterm effects... or it could be jadded and bitter like me after i had kids!!
