Re:HELP needed! - 2007/10/21 14:03 I imagine you'll get a number of different ideas for this - personally, I recommend a shallow litter pan (or cookie sheet) and use a different type of litter than what you are using in the rest of the cage. Quite a few people I know are using small animal litter - it's available at PetSmart if you're interested. Stasi

Re:HELP needed! - 2007/10/21 15:39 What about something like this? It's a toaster oven pan just like smhufflepuff suggested. It's hard to tell from the image but the pan is 9.5" x 6.2". I think you should be able to find them at Walmart or Target easily enough but I found this example from Amazon and its listed for $4.75... not too bad!

Re:HELP needed! - 2007/10/21 17:07 You should probably try to make sure that the pan fits underneath and extends a bit from each side of the wheel. The poo/pee is probably going to drain off the sides a bit so if the tray is too small it wont help much! It looks as if the tray I posted a picture of might fit nicely if you slide it between the two legs... but you should probably measure.

Also... I imagine that if you can fit your wheel into the cage then the tray should fit as well. Otherwise you might want to look into getting a bigger cage?

Re:HELP needed! - 2007/10/22 09:07 Yeah; looks like Vern's to me too.

From what he's said, the poos and pees should just go down through the mesh rather than running off the side. So the cookie sheet (or whatever) just needs to be below it and maybe a bit off to the sides to deal with any, um, splatter factor...

Re:HELP needed! - 2007/10/22 11:13 In addition to the under the wheel one? Sure. My little one has used her corner litter box for poopies when she's not doing so on her wheel.
My understanding is that some hedgies do well with litter boxes and others seem to be rather untrainable. Might as well try - good luck!

Naw, they're all trainable - it's just whether they care to behave or not!

Re:HELP needed! - 2007/10/22 13:50 I'm not quite sure about the exact dimensions, but I got mine where they put the ferret supplies. It has a high back corner part... maybe 4" tall, then slopes down on the sides to about 2" high, then the front part dips down even more... maybe 1" high so that Satin can climb in and out pretty easily. When she was little, I used to pile some extra parts of her liner in front of it so she could just walk up rather than climb over. Now that she's a big girl (still just shy of 7mos, but a whopping 650g), I don't build a ramp. I'd say the front part sticks out maybe 5" or so from the back corner.
