and i have some shreded cotton fabric it is abot 3/4" wide and 8" long. whould they serve the same purpose as a "hedgie blanket"

Re:hedgehog homes - 2007/12/20 16:58 Hi!

A hedgie blanket is basically a piece of material that you put in the igloo (or whatever) for the hedgehog to burrow and snuggle up into.

Cotton is a bad material to use because it can have loose threads that your hedgie can get wrapped around his feet, cutting off the circulation. The materials that most people use are either fleece or velux, much safer!

The blankets can be any size that you want. Some people use large pieces (eg 12" by 12") while others cut up lots of smaller squares for the hedgies to burrow into. I personally would be a bit wary of using very long, narrow sections, incase the hedgehog got tangled up....... but that could just be me being an overprotective hedgie mum (.....sorry, mom)!

You can get a "house" for your hedgie in most pet stores. Many hedgie people use igloos, which are fairly commonly sold (I can even get them, and I live in the U.K).

Hope this answers your questions.
