BIG QUESTION!!! - 2007/12/28 18:45 I got home and my hedgehog moved everything around the cage... Why is that? Maybe the cage is too big?

Re:BIG QUESTION!!! - 2007/12/28 18:49 From what I've read they like to root around and push things. I've also heard of hedgies moving things when they don't like the set up. You could try putting things in different places, or giving the hedgie things to push around. The one thing I have heard is that more space is better. So I don't think it's that.

Re:BIG QUESTION!!! - 2007/12/28 19:13 He's just playing. Either that or he's not fond of your decorating skills.

Try giving him some cat toys or tubes to run through. Maybe he'll learn to burn his energy off in a less destructive way...

Re:BIG QUESTION!!! - 2007/12/28 22:12 I don't think you should change the cage as larger cages are generally better. Another thing I forgot to mention was a wheel. Do you have one? If not, your hedgehog will most likely continue to re-arrange everything. I strongly recommend getting him a nice large (11") solid surface wheel! Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:BIG QUESTION!!! - 2007/12/29 00:05 I agree! Hedgehogs require a lot of space. He probably just wanted to re-arrange his furniture more to his taste!

The more cage space you can provide the better. As suggested, providing a wheel can usually help them direct their attention to running. If he doesn't have one, he could very well be bored and using his furniture to entertain himself.

I'd go back to the larger cage, provide a wheel, maybe some toys (plastic cat balls, and 4 inch wide pvc pipes work great).
