Hedgie name help! - 2008/01/03 15:09 Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and infact new to hedgehogs as a whole. I went to visit my local breeder on New Year's day, she was fantastic and allowed me to handle lots of her herd whilst explaining how to look after the little ones. Well after that I was smitten and put my name on the waiting list for the next litter due in April... It now turns out that she has had a cancellation and all being well I should be taking home my own little hoglet very soon!

As you can imagine I'm so excited But I haven't had a chance to think of a name yet! The hoglet is a little boy and he is very light in colour, just wondering if anyone could help me with some name suggestions?

Thanks

Re:Hedgie name help! - 2008/01/03 15:16 i try to do the whole name thing before they get home, but your best bet is to just wait until the little one is at home and a name will come. something from his/her personality will just make you think of it. my girl was nameless for about three days before we chose huffie

Re:Hedgie name help! - 2008/01/03 16:11 I did a real lot of bickering back in forth with my roommate before my hedgehog arrived and when he finally came home we waited a few days longer to see which name suited him best. As far as where to get inspiration from... that's totally up to you but the internet has a vast amount of pet naming sites to at least get the ball rolling. Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:Hedgie name help! - 2008/01/04 15:29 Of all the hedgehogs that have left here, no one (that I know of) has ever been named Fluffy.

Re:Hedgie name help! - 2008/01/04 16:11 Fluffy as a common name? Hrm.... not that I have ran across often.
Spike, Sonic, and Prickles are the three most common ones that I hear.

I would play in naming websites (both pet names and child names) and then make a list. Bring your little guy home and see which suits him the best.

Personally I think hedgehogs are wonderfully unique animals and deserve somewhat interesting names. My first was named Bartleby. My baby I just got a month ago is Harley Hedgehog (he is bad to the quill!). Aislinsadia has a hedgehog named Noodles! It’s great! You can be so creative.

I think if you named a hedgehog Sonic, he might stage a revolt and take over your home.

Re:Hedgie name help! - 2008/01/11 15:25 Well he finally has a name, and a long one at that! As his Dad is called Mr Pig, and his mum Mrs Pig, only right really that his second name be Pig... and since his breeder called him Coolpig, well that kinda stuck, so he has become Hufflepuff Coolpig! PSI_Chick I hope you're not offended as his name is similar to your little girl's name... it just seemed to fit when he got home and started huffing away at me! Lauren, Hufflepuff and Scarlet

Re:Hedgie name help! - 2008/01/11 15:56 Awww I love the surname Coolpig, especially since I haven't actually thought of a full name for Quentin. My gerbils all had full names. Furrball was "Sir Furrball Ball McBall," Domino was "Domino Derrick Furlong" and Spike was "Spike Samuel Furlong." lol Don't laugh at me too much, I was 6 years old for Furrball and 11 for the other two. well, you know, they are kind of fluffy... on their belly's. I just love when Satin splats out on my arm or anointing in my hand and I can feel her soft belly fur press against my fingers

I totally agree! The campus I live on is saturated with squirrels and people feed them all so they are fat and not afraid of people. Everytime I walk home from class I see one just sitting up looking at me with its big, fat, soft, white tummy, and as soon as I get home I have to pick up Quentin and fluff and pet his soft plump tummy!

We had a squirrel mafia back in college. They would get into our dorm rooms if the window was open and steal stuff. Food, shirts…anything! You’d see a squirrel dragging a scarf as you went to class. I kept my window shut!

Harley has the thickest fur, so soft. I only wish he loved to cuddle but he is all about the action.
