I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/16 08:57 My newest most favoritest product.....Saran Press and Seal. It is even better than maxi pads for lining running wheels. Everyone right now, sign off and go to the store to buy a role of it to try on your wheels - you will thank me!!!

Another thing I have recently learned...meal worms love paper!!!! In my mealworm tank I had a cup that was turned over and when I lifted it up there were tons of mealworms under it. So I started to think that maybe they liked having a covering of sorts....so I put a piece of paper over them. Well they are wild for it. There are tons of them under the paper which makes it so easy to harvest them and they EAT the paper too!!!

So there you go 2 helpful hints for the day ...LOL

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/16 14:41 Hedgie feet don't slip off the saran wrap? I have thought of that but if they don't slip then heck yeah! Harley and I have been trying to work this out. Somedays he is careful and other days.. well... let's just say it's a very good thing he is so cute.

i have to agree with you there! at first i was trying to figure out how to get omelette to use her wheel, now i'm trying to figure out how to clean it every morning! i've thought about the press and seal stuff. i would think that it would be less slippery that regular saran wrap? and less sticky for that matter.

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/16 17:53 I was wrong its not Saran it is Glad Press and Seal. Give it a try it is wonderful. I put it on a wheel last night and this morning it was covering in the usual poop and pee. It peeled off with ease and no wheel scrubbing. Love it Julie Pierce

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/16 19:32 The press and seal has enough texture to keep the little feet steady! It's a great use for a fantastic product! (I also can see it going over better than pads with our male friends....teehee) Stasi

Oh yes we were running on maxi pads for while here..hahahah. The sticky stuff sometimes was a challenge to get off the wheels. The Glad Press and Seal is FABULOUS! I will never be without a roll of it in my hedgie room again!

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/17 11:48 I think in the U.K. it is called cling wrap, but this particular one really creates a tight almost waterproof seal when you cover food with it. So if you put it on a hedgie wheel, it has like a stickiness or a little tackiness to it so it will cling to the wheel. I hope this helps!

Do you think it would be worth it to you to have some shipped to you? I have a friend who's Mom lives in Ireland and he says shipping has almost doubled in the past year!! If you think it is...let me know!! (and then maybe I can pack myself into the box and take a little trip! )

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/18 04:47 This may sound really silly, but how come the hedgie doesnt get stuck to the wrap... I know that with clingfilm i even get it stuck to my fingers and have to shake it off... I wouldn't want a mummified hufflepuff! Lauren, Hufflepuff and Scarlet

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/18 11:16 I don't know about shipping costs but maybe I'll do a little searching around, here at work we ship UPS. I'll see if I can find anything out. Just for the heck of it I'll see about 5 lbs, for the weight I'm sure nobdy would want just one roll shipped.Just give me a little bit of time.Okay?

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/18 14:32 Oh my! Between mummified cling wrapped hedgies to rolling maxi pads, this is a very entertaining thread. The maxi pad idea presents quite the image! Ha ha!

This sounds like a great idea. I know Harley will appreciate it. He always sulks when I take the wheel out to clean it. I have to wash it once at night and again in the morning. He is some kind of powerhouse and spends HOURS on his wheel. He will use his litter box but once he is on his wheel...

Some nights I take it out and don’t put it back. The next day he is always EXTRA friendly and affectionate. He reminds me of a kid who lost his Xbox privileges and is following you around brown nosing to get it back. Of course once he gets it back, he goes back to his normal behavior.

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/18 14:42 I'm trying to picture this in a bucket wheel... How, exactly, do you put it in the wheel? Just a strip of it along the running surface? Or does some of it have to stick to the outside of the wheel too? Do you have a pic?

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/18 16:50 I just slap it on...I am not one for being fancy but I guess you could cut it to the exact dimensions of the wheel and stick it on. I just tear off a piece and put it on, it does overlap to the outside of the wheel. I usually tear off 3 pieces so they are easier to work with and cover the entire running surface. Julie Pierce

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/18 17:48 Maybe I wasn't doing it right, but I didn't have much luck with it. With three tries on two wheels, only one of the wheels for one night worked well- the other nights the stuff was half off in the morning and I'm sure they had a heck of a time trying to run on it It's worth another try though because for the time it did work out, it was INCREDIBLY nice! I think tomorrow when I clean the wheels I'm going to give it another shot *~*Steph*~*

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/19 11:38 Make sure the wheel is completely dry before you put the wrap on it. It is at all wet it wont stick right. Give it another shot! Julie Pierce

Thistle, I wanted to let you know that I looked up shipping costs and I have some not so good news I looked up UPS shipping to Glasgow, and I picked up a box here at work. It weighed three pounds...well the cost of shipping would be $69.10 US!!!! I was thinking that it might be half that.

I couldn't believe my eyes I guess that would be maybe four or five rolls of the stuff. It works good but I don't know if it's that good.

I know that's only one shipping company, but I would think they all must be semi comparable in shipping costs.

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/23 10:47 For curiousity sake I checked the shipping prices listed by ebay and I was between 23$ and 39$ for a 3lb package. That's if you live in Scotland and it's shipped from the US. Funny though...I checked it out to send from where I live in Canada and it ranges from 36$-101$. I guess I won't be sending it. Stupid shipping prices!

Re:I learn something new everyday - 2008/01/23 12:30 Now I looked on the U.S. Postal Service, for a 5 lb. package it is between 35. to 47. dollars U.S. So I agree 'stupid shipping prices"!!
