will ants hurt hedgehogs? - 2008/01/24 10:12sometimes, ants are able to crawl up the cage sides and go to Penelope's food dish! i've done my best to remove them and eliminate them but there is the occasional ant. i was wondering if they could possibly hurt a hedgehog. or do hedgehogs eat ants??Katherine Y shoe obsessed philophy major who loooooves her birdies! and Penelope the hedgie!

Re:will ants hurt hedgehogs? - 2008/01/24 11:23Ahh, ant is the dangerous thing for hedgehogs. It may bite your lovely pet as it would bite you. Some kind of ants are harm free ,but some can get you a seriously wound for your hedgehogs.
In my house there're Red Ant (I call it "Fire Ant" or "มดคันไฟ") which can bite you til you die but little Black Ant will not bite you and help you clear out the garbage. I don't know which kind of it in your houseClick!!! >>> http://kane123.picturepush.com/

If they are those little teeny tiny ones(sugar ants or as my Grammie used to call 'em 'pissmires' ) they shouldn't be able to hurt anything they are so tiny. But like Kane says if you have fire ants that's totally different.(I guess they have those in the south) How big are they? Re:will ants hurt hedgehogs? - 2008/01/24 12:02I believe it depends on the ant (as already mentioned) and where the ant goes. If it's by the sniffer/chomper end of your hedge, then it will likely be eaten. Then you just have to worry about what that ant's been in before it got to your hedge (eg, poison for insects) If it's anywhere else, it can climb aboard and, once under the quills, be quite the pest.
