Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/25 11:28Wow, that's crazy! My hedgie is a baby and the wheel is super quiet, all I hear are her little tiny hedgie feet. Although I did order one of those metal bucket wheels (Kelly recommended it) So I'm just going to use the silent spinner for her "play room". But it is very quietWhat kind of noise does it make???I'm curious. LoriLORI, SOUTHINGTON, CT Mom of: Chloe(dog), Mr.Toad(frog) and Hazel the hedgie!!

Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/25 11:42i cant tell if its the bottom taping against the bottom of the cage... or if its hitting the part thats holding it up... everytime i try to spy to see if i can figure out what it is he stops running... lol... and i noticed that the wheel spins kind of lopsided.. i duno... i think i just have to try and see if another one works... it doesnt make the noise wen i spin it tho, only wen hes on itProud Mother of... Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/25 12:02I use an 11" solid surface metal wheel from qualitycage.comand I love it. It's still super quiet after two months with two open sides it's very easy to clean up. I think it's the same one that Lori is using. I would definitely recommend getting one even at though they run about $30.Check out Ham's Blog !

LOL im on that website... the saucer thing is kinda funny... i wonder if it works... since they had to animate the chinchilla on it... lol i like how they have the little guy running on it and another one below it, it looks like the saucer is smacking him in the head... lol... do you know if they sell wheels like that at commercial stores? i'd like to look at one in person... im kinda being picky Proud Mother of... Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/25 12:39The actual silent spinner wheel is very quiet for me. I have my hedgie's cage in my bedroom so it has to be quiet! When I first got the wheel I noticed that the stand would rock a little bit against the bottom of the cage. I took some duct tape and taped the wheel stand to the bottom of the cage. No more noise! Another thing that may be a problem with your wheel is hooking it up to the yellow part in the back. there is a small groove on the yellow piece that matches up with another groove on the white part of the wheel. I know if I don't hook this up right it will also make loud noises. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=106956777

Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/25 12:46Yikes, I just ordered mine the other day and they are up to $40.00 now, but it should last forever and Kelly uses them and she has multi-hedgies as opposed to my one.Although down the road... we will just have to see how many hedgies use mine!!
so 'R' I'm going to go home tonite and see how mine is connected to the cage, maybe there is some kind of adjustment you can make-is your hedgie full grown?Maybe he is heavier than Hazel, if so maybe an adjustment won't work.Since it's not right in front of me I can't picture how it's attached. (the first two nights little Hazel used hers she spun the wheel off the hub!!I felt terrible , that's why I ordered the new one, although now that my hubby tightened it it's staying on fineLORI, SOUTHINGTON, CT Mom of: Chloe(dog), Mr.Toad(frog) and Hazel the hedgie!!

Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/25 12:50I think it depends on how well the particular SS was made - I think some aren't quite as good as others, even though they're mass produced.
Probably also depends on the weight of your hedge and how s/he uses it - like if s/he runs in a straight line, weaves back and forth, stops and starts a lot, etc...
That saucer thing... I talked to someone about that once. He had one... for a very short period of time. The problem with them is they don't stop spinning when the hedgie stops running, so little hedge flew off of it and didn't stop until he hit the wall
I do like the idea of checking into other options. By far it seems that bucket wheels with the rollerblade wheels are reliably quiet.

Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/25 14:39i think i'll try the tape tonight... if thats not the problem then maybe i just have a faulty one... i think if i conected it to the side of the cage it would make noise by shaking the cage? hes about 4 months old... so hes not the smallest hedgie anymore (tear my babys growing up :'( ) ... but i dont know if that would affect it... i mean they show chins on them? i've never held one before but they look like they weigh more then my son... hmmm... so i dont think it has to do with that..Proud Mother of... Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/26 10:23I have a silent spinner for my hedgie, and a much much smaller one for my hamster, I have had about 4 spinners over my animal owning years and have never had a problem, it's probably just banging against something or rubbing. Good luck solving your problem Lauren, Hufflepuff and Scarlet UK

Re:How silent is a silent spinner? - 2008/01/31 21:51I reaaly liked the look fo the comfort wheels and that's what i got. The only noise it makes is when she's running so fast it shakes the foundation.
