i have a lazy hedgie - 2008/02/03 10:25 penelope is one of the "sleepy" hedgies. anytime you check her cage she's asleep. and whenever you take her out and put her on your lap she falls asleep. but tonight was different. not that she became active. but this time she was fully awake and sniffing the air around her. not moving from her spot, of course, but AWAKE! whoo! she looked like she was some rich trophy wife lounging on the sofa (me) while she looked around. then she's look up at me, look somewhere else, stick her face in my clothes, look up again, all while lying down.

is this too weird a hedgie? she's so lazy!!

Re:i have a lazy hedgie - 2008/02/03 11:27 She's just decided to play being a diva. You can try to motivate her by scattering some treats for her to 'hunt'. Sounds like she was smelling something interesting - were you cooking, cleaning or having visitors? Stasi

Re:i have a lazy hedgie - 2008/02/04 17:11 Remember that hedgehogs are nocturnal, so they will be asleep for most of the time you are awake. They also tend to be awake for awhile then nap, wake up, nap...... (rinse, lather, repeat) throughout the night.

If you just got your hedgehog, then she is probably a baby, and much like a human baby, she will sleep a lot.

Dimming the lights and turning down the noise might make her more willing to get up and play.
