lanolin?? - 2008/02/06 11:35 what about sheep... i think it's the oil from their washings. lanolin oil! my aunt gave me a bottle of it for massages but i don't like them. and penny has dry skin. is it safe?

how do you put oil on them and not end up with a greasy hog?

Re:lanolin?? - 2008/02/06 12:30 About the non-greasy hog: I've used vitamin e... the trick with that was to get her kind of annoyed with me so she perked her quills up. Then I dropped the vit e in between her quills right on her skin. And I really do mean just a drop... a little goes a long way. Trying to put it on her with her quills all relaxed and covering her skin made for one greasy hog

Hopefully someone knows more about lanolin oil and will weigh in soon on its safety.

Lanolin should be safe-it is what they recommend for nursing human moms. Don't know whether the hedgehog would like the smell or not though.

Re:lanolin?? - 2008/02/06 18:41 Isn't lanolin in Bag Balm? I put that on Ava's ears sometimes. Ava's mom!

Re:lanolin?? - 2008/02/07 09:07 I'm not sure if you could do this with lanolin but if you use vitamin e or olive oil.... When bath time is almost over I put a few drops in the water and swish it around a little bit to distribute the oil. Use a cup and pour some over their backs. The oil will stick to them (although some will get on the quills). I've done this before and it was incredibly easy and worked immediately to stop the flakies. Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:lanolin?? - 2008/02/08 06:16 Yep lanolin is in bagbalm too as well as other ingredients. The reason I mentioned smell is I have had cats go totally nuts over any type of sheep product-wool, etc. so some hedgies may as well Ann
