Food - 2008/02/06 20:01 I know i will not get a hedgehog for a while but inorder to let my parents let me i have to do hours and hours of research....(i had to with my guinea pig too)

So i have beed reading up on food, and i hear purina is good....
I will probably mix like 3 foods (is that enough?) and what 3 brands should i use?

Im also looking at housing (building one) if you have any good pictures of two storage boxes(the clear kind) link together please email me pictures at emdub2011@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance!

Re:Food - 2008/02/06 22:40 There are a lot of opinions on which food is best. If you read through the threads in this forum, you will find plenty of opinions on what food to use.

My opinion is that is you only have one hedgehog, you are best buying your mix from a breeder.

Re:Food - 2008/02/07 18:04 There is a USDA lisc. breeder in Tacoma WA listed on Hedgehogcentral.com

http://www.hedgehogcentral.com/breederusa.shtml

I don't know anything about her but Tacoma is about 25 miles from Seattle according to google maps.

Here is her website: http://www.tinyurl.com/gsyrf

I don't know if any of the breeders on this forum know her or anyone here bought hedgies from her?

Re:Food - 2008/02/08 06:49 For my hedgies I use a mix of Royal Canin, Purina One, Chicken Soup for the Cat's Soul, Wellness and Blue Buffalo. I've also tried Spike's Delight (that was for the hedgehog that was weaned onto it) and have had little success with the hogs eating it. It's the only hedgehog only food in the mix, but they won't touch it. I think it shows they have good taste . I wouldn't suggest using it though... After finding an ACTUAL PIECE OF BONE in one of the pieces two days ago, I've ceased it's use in the mix permanently. I would buy my mix from a breeder if it weren't for the fact that I also have two cats, who will eat the food before it goes bad, and allows me to buy in bigger quantities. Plus that means the cats get an interesting mix too. Call my animals spoiled rotten and I'd have to whole heartedly agree with you *~*Steph*~*
Cotton, Noodles & Cocoa (hedgehogs), Kuruku & Kimiko (kittehs), Sushi & Lily (Ryukin Goldfish), Rosy & Ruby (beagle sisters), and Archie & Rocky (African Dwarf Frogs).
