Re:dry ears - 2008/02/16 16:03 you could try giving your hedgie a bath with aveeno bath powder or try vitamin e or olive oil. rub a little on his/her ears. that is if his/her skin is also dry. otherwise, i've heard of people just rubbing a little olive oil directly onto the skin. Lisa

Re:dry ears - 2008/02/21 08:26 Definately don't use cocoa butter on the ears if your hedgehog is around other hedgehogs though! Cocoa butter is apparently VERY tasty, and the one time I oopsed and cocoa buttered ears in a group girl cage, there was MUCH chomping on ears immediately. I had to pull everyone out, give them all baths to get the cocoa butter off, and then put them back in the cage. :-P

Funny, in my reply yesterday I kind of went into what Bag Balm was and ended up deleting it. I thought it was too wordy. Oh well.
It is an ointment made for the teats and udders of milk cows(originally) it keeps them from chapping and cracking . so I guess the farmers kind of started using it on their own skin and it got handed down thru the ages.

My mom always had Bag Balm around. She is originally from Vermont.(Farm country)So I always kept it around. But when I was dating my husband he came over to my apartment and had to use the bathroom, when he came out he had a REAL strange expression on his face when he came out ( ) and he says "Lori, what in the HELL is Bag Balm????" It was hysterical! If you could have seen the expression on his face.

To this day my hubby uses it on his hands in the winter, you know once the shock of it wore off....

You never know what you'll find at other folks houses!

My mom was in my kitchen cooking and dug through my spice cabinet and was SHOCKED when what she thought was a big bottle of some spice turned out to be Fluckers freeze dried crickets. We heard the shrieks throughout the house. Of course she was able to guess what they were for... lol

Re:dry ears - 2008/02/22 11:27 OMG!!That's so funny!I can't even imagine what your Mom had flash thru her mind until it registered!!
I was just thinking that if Bag Balm was called udder cream or something it probably wouldn't have gotten the same reaction, sumthin' about the term 'bag' just brings different ideas to a guys mind.....
