So I am going to go back and pick up pink ones for all my girls and future girls and that way when I set up my PVC Shelf onces I get the info from Stasi I will have my girls in pink containers and the boys in clear LOL. Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/02/20 11:16 Nifty!

Has anyone had problems with hedgehogs escaping from these containers? Harley has one to play in. He has figured out how to stand on his back legs and strech like a slinky reaching over the side until his toes are hooked under the lip of the cointer and he pulls himself right out.

P.S. of course I am getting him one with higher walls, I just wanted to see if he is the only Hedgehog to do this.

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/02/20 12:13 Ummm....yeah, I have sterilite container escapees but I find its from stepping on the stuff inside (like bowls, litter boxes or igloos) and getting out.

I took some wire cube squares (the type you make C&C cages with) and zip tied them together over the top for the one the escapee lives in, and it works great. Of course, this is a narrow but LONG cage, so the 14" wire squares work great.

I've also carefully re-thought the items I put in the container, so that no others will get out. But, they can always move stuff, and stack stuff, and just do things I don't understand....to get out if they REALLY wanted to. But, I find it depends on the hedgehog -- some don't care to jump out, even if it was easy. Others just want to run around, so it depends

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/02/20 12:27 I forgot -- the other thing you can do is cut a whole in the top of the container and zip tie on a wire cube...and basically make it a door. That way there is NO space for them to get out, and the top is on nice and snug.

(I was going to do that, but the top wasn't flat nor wide enough to cut a hole in it.)

Harley is a stacker! He piles everything up and tries to see how high he can get by climbing on top his pile. I was expecting him to get out eventually. I was surprised though because when he finally did it, I was washing his toys so he has nothing to climb on! He's a wiley one.

And once he was out he didn't run off. He sat there looking all smug. It was so funny.

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/04/27 18:43 Anyone have pics of these 90qt containers? What are the dimensions? Want to make sure when I go to walmart that I know what to look for. Since they have tons of these.

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/04/27 19:01 Fishcube,
You will find them labeled 90Qt Sterilite containers, they are 34 inches long and 15 feet wide and 15 feet high are the deminions but again just look for 90 qt or ask a walmart person to show you where there 90 Qt Sterilite containers are and they should be able to get you to them asap. I hope this helps

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/04/28 21:23 I have a container like this and my husband made a screened top that is secure and heavy--this allows ample air in and all I have to do to get in is remove the screen top. But the screen is heavy enough that it helps prevent escapes. I dont think I would be comfortable leaving the top exposed with no cover because I have seen Spikey stretch really long and I would be worried about escapes.

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/05/06 12:58 Does anybody know about how much these cost at Walmart? I'm interested in trying them, I have big glass aquariums right now. They are great for the hedgies but not so easy to clean by yourself. I think the plastic sounds way more practical so long as it won't cost me too much to trade out what I have now for them. Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/05/06 13:03 I bought one for traveling so it's a little smaller than I would normally keep her in. But it was $14.99. The bigger ones were $18.99. That was at target. Becky

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/05/06 13:23 OK that's not too bad! Sometimes those containers get can get expensive but I only need to pick up like 4 or 5 of em so if it ends up being around $20 a pop that's not bad. I can probably sell the aquariums all used too to make up for it, they were all in good condition and don't leak. The plastic sounds way easier for me though in the long run and worth the investment at the price! Thanks! 'Oh, Mrs. Tiggy Winkle! If only all hedgehogs could do house work!'

Re:New Sterilite Containers!!!! - 2008/05/07 21:24 our 90qt was only $10 at wally-world.

It was decent and easy to drill holes into to secure the wheel.
