Hedgehog love - 2008/02/22 10:22
The past week has been very long for me! I had surgery on my leg, and all was well until saturday night. I ended up in the emergency room with horrible head and neck pain. They said that I had a spinal flid leak from the spinal anesthia that I was given during my surgery. Well to make a long story short, I was hospitalizes from sunday until wednesday night. I missed digit the hedgehog so much, that my boyfriend broke down and got me one of the walmart v-day hedgehogs (he didn't want to get me more stuffed animals as I already have so many!  ). The stuffed hedgie just wasn't the same though, and when I got home my boyfriend went and got digit and gave her to me to hold. She went crazy sniffing and licking and climbing all over me. I have never seen her do this before. She climbed up to my face and then licked me on the nose! It was cute. She then climbed back down and fell asleep on my lap. I guess someone was happy I was home! I don't know if animals can miss people, the way that people miss animals, but it sure seemed like she missed me and was happy I was back to be with her!

Mercy! Sounds like you had a thoroughly yucky week. Glad you are home now, and I am sure that Digit was glad to see you. Take it easy, make the boyfriend wait on you hand and foot, and spend lots of snuggle time with your girl.

She was checking out all those interesting hospital smells and telling you how much she missed you at the same time. So sweet!
Some folks say that your pets are senistive to your feelings and maybe she knows you don't feel well.

Wow, sounds like you've been through a lot  Hospitals suck.....I hope you feel better now!!!
I definitely think animals have an intuition about things we may never understand My cat knows when I'm starting to get sad and will often just come sit on my lap.
Recently, I was away with my mom when she was sent to the ER...and ever since I got back, she won't leave my side. Everywhere I am, she goes. She waits by the bedroom door when she knows I'm ready to go to sleep, and she sleeps with her head on my pillow. I'm 5 months pregnant, and I'm wondering if she's attached to me or the baby.....I don't think I'll ever know I do know that she's the only one in the household that seems to have that intuition -- not even my boyfriend knows if I'm feeling down.
But isn't it funny how much you miss those spiny little friends of ours? I'm away for two days for business each week and I miss them like crazy. I think i'm a weirdo when I feel that way though!

Animals do feel love and loss. Just because they don't quantify it like we do doesn't mean it's not there. You might like the book "When elephants weep." It talks about the emotions of animals.
My cat is very attached to me. If I am sick with a migraine he will not leave my side. He'll even sit on the edge of the bath tub and risk being sprayed by the shower to watch over me.
Digit loves you very much, I'm convinced.

my cat does that too. he will also follow me to the bathroom and sit outside the door and whine. then if i don't open the door, he sticks his paw underneath it.
i'm sorry to hear about your horrible week. but there's nothing like hedgehog love to make someone feel better!
