Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/05 18:02Here is one of our cages. Not too many toys in it though. I don't like leaving toilet paper tubes in overnight (even if they're cut) just incase one of my boys gets their heads stuck and panics. They have pvc tubes, plastic cat balls with a bell, their wheel and inside their igloos they have a massive pile of fleece strips to dig in.

Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/07 05:25This was Cotton's first home that I made for her waaaaaaaay back in May of 2007. It's changed since then several times, but the idea has stayed pretty much the same except it's way bigger now than it used to be . I also have those ferret funnel things constructed in different ways that I place in their cages for them to run through. Another idea I've heard that hedgies like are little matchbox sized cars, and Tonka trucks made for tykes. Also, a dig box is popular- I take a kleenex box and put some fleece strips in it and Cocoa likes to dig in it.

Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/07 20:45Oh I know what you guys mean! When I first looked into getting a hedgehog as a pet, I saw that it was like a 2 foot cage minimum... so I thought that most people had their cage around that size. Right now I have a 30 by 18 inch cage. But I mean I can't go out and buy a new one because I have only had me hedgie for about 2 1/2 weeks!?
But tonight I went out and got a litter box along with some carefresh litter and a pvc tube because they looked popular.
His cage looks a little fuller and more hedgie-like now.
I'll post a pic soon! **Mommy of Tweetle the hedgehog!** ~Felicia :]

Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/08 12:08The cage looks great! 30x18 is a good size. Bigger is fine too, but not needed! I'd recommend just cleaning the litterbox daily, then Tweetie won't have to walk through ickies as much. Stasi Terrapin Hedgehogs Joppa, MD www.terrapinhedgehogs.com

Harley also has his very own Prickles beanie baby. I love that thing, Harley is the THIRD hedgehog to own it.
Tweetle's Mom, your set up looks good. I know there are lots of folks here with great set ups and it's easy to wonder if you can spoil your baby even more than you already are. But Tweetle is very young and I promise you, that your time with him is way more important than a super fancy cage. He can't get bored hanging out with you, that and what might seem boring to you might fascinate your hedgehog for hours!

Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/09 15:36i agree! and think about it this way, you have years to accumulate tons of things to spoil your hedgie with. and later if you want you can get a bigger cage, when and if you have the room/funds. but right now you've got all he needs. and you are probably your hedgie's favorite toy! you're his own jungle gym! btw, tweetle is really cute. i like that he looks like he has a bit of "blonde hair". Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/09 17:47Here are my 2 cages, Hector's is at the bottom (39" x 20") and Harriet's is above (47" x 22")
Both of them have their own beanie baby, as well as lots of cat toys, though they never seem to bother with them. They just love their wheels and big tubes they can crawl through. Barbara with Hector & Harriet Hog Glasgow, Scotland

Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/09 18:35Nice cages I don't have pictures of mine right now. The 30X18 is a great size. Don't feel bad about it. I have one hedgie in a cage that size and my other two in the next size up(but that's because they are breeding females).Emily Prickles N' Quills Hedgehogs Breeding for Excellent Health, Personality & Color Charlotte, NC www.pricklesnquills.webs.com www.remembermethemovie.webs.com

I have no idea, sorry. It doesn't have a brand name printed on it, I got it new on ebay for a really good price (think it was £19.99).
The adjustable platform and ramp actually came with the Marchioro 'Robin' cage that Harriet is in, but since her cage is bigger than Hector's, I thought that it was fairer that he should get it.Barbara with Hector & Harriet Hog Glasgow, Scotland

Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/10 18:41Right now I have a marchioro cage which I really like. I just wish it was a little shorter. Ham has never tried climbing the sides so I'm not worried about him falling. I'm just trying to save a little space...Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:Just Plain Boring - 2008/03/11 10:16I suppose it does. The black wire was throwing me off a little. It's funny... over the past 6 months, between my original search for a cage and now, I must have seen EVERY cage known to mankind. And yet I keep looking!Check out Ham's Blog !
