Wheeling? - 2008/02/26 14:55Right so we've got Lychee a wheel big enough to go on my car. We've put him in it and he's done a poop which I believe is half the enjoyment they get out of it but he hasn't started wheeling yet. I know some hedgehogs aren't that bothered by it (Lychee hardly moves at the best of times and seems to like burrowing more) but is there any hints on at least getting him to have a try? He is getting a bit portly! If not what other exercise is good for him?

Re:Wheeling? - 2008/02/26 16:16Some hedgehogs are shy and don't like to be watched while they are wheeling. The only sign that they use their wheel is the poop tred all over it the next morning. .....
You could try putting him on it and very slowly start to turn it, with your hand nest to him to stop him jumping off. But to be honest I would probably just leave the wheel in Lychee's cage, turn the light out and leave him to it. Hopefully he will soon work out what to do and in few days you will wake to a poopy wheel and a soon to be slim-line hedgie. Barbara with Hector & Harriet Hog Glasgow, Scotland

Yay Lychee! Once they learn to wheel, they become little wheeling maniacs!

Re:Wheeling? - 2008/04/02 19:15It’s not a silent wheel but if woken I don’t find it too unpleasant. He’s so secretive though, if I move he’ll stop like in a spotlight. He’s also come to the opinion that his business hitting him in the face doesn’t appeal to him so if he knows it’s coming (from what I understand it can be a surprise esp if they’re furiously wheeling) he’ll get off and go infront of his wheel and get back on!

Re:Wheeling? - 2008/04/06 19:00My hedgehog will stop running and huff at me if I walk anywhere near him while he wheels. On the other hand... if I put him back in his cage, without his igloo in there, he'll immediately run for the wheel. Check out Ham's Blog !

Wheeling? - 2008/04/28 22:03Kelly, and others with multiple hedgies, I was wondering how you kept up with so many wheels (cleaning)? Any tips or just the way that works for you? Thanks
