Dedication - 2008/03/08 07:04 So kiki has decided she DOES NOT eat Science Diet. And like a well trained owner I've spent the last few evenings pulling those peices out of her food mix. My cat's are thrilled to peices to see more of it in their mix. At least they are not choosey eaters. All in all I think my cats are eating better as a result of me getting a hedgehog.

Re:Dedication - 2008/03/08 10:07 If I were to make my own mix, I wouldn't know what to put in it!

I buy mine from Kelly at Hamor Hollow because I must admit I trust the breeders more than myself!!

Re:Dedication - 2008/03/09 16:21 The lable looks good on it, but have you heard anything negative about it. At first I thought it was the shape of the pellets. She's really gotta work to bite into them.

Re:Dedication - 2008/03/09 18:32 well, there are varying opinions on here, but I personally wouldn't feed it. But, that's my opinion and i know many other feel differently on this subject. Emily

Re:Dedication - 2008/03/10 08:05 I'd have to agree, it's not a good food. And if you look at the label, it really *isn't* that good. It just gets touted around as being great because the Science Diet company gives free food to vet schools and establishments, and so vets usually recommend it. Lay people don't see how it could be bad because it says "Vet approved" on the package, much like Iams which we all know should be avoided like the plague. The only exception is the prescription food that Science Diet makes, but that requires a prescription and is for special needs. *~*Steph*~*

Re:Dedication - 2008/03/10 13:24 Picking out pieces for your hedgie? That IS dedication.

My hedge just eats around the offending pieces. And I hand those over to my mom to use as treats for her dog.

Re:Dedication - 2008/03/10 18:31 I generlly keep purina indoor as the base for my mix and i add a few different foods. The current mix contains purina one, purina kitten chow, Pet spa, and one more that I can't remember. If you folks have any comments about those foods let me know. I can't seem to find Chicken soup for the cat lover's soul in my area. I would include it if I could. My last question is about types of protein. Being that we are trying to get low fat foods i tend to get a lot of chicken based products. Should i be tring to get fish, lamb or beef based foods?
