Beginner's Questions - 2008/03/23 22:07
Hello all! First post here and I come bearing questions.
My little Pelly is a little over three months now, and I've noticed a change in his appetite lately. I free feed him with a bowl in his cage, and he is a pretty normal eater. I usually put 2-3 spoon fulls of his food in the bowl which he'll nibble on periodically. For the first few weeks I had him, I would have to replenish the food maybe once a week or so. However for the past two weeks I've found that it needs to be refilled one to two times a week. It's not as if he finishes absolutely everything, but enough that I want to put some more in. He gets plenty of exercise and can still roll up into a nice tight ball, and he seems happy and healthy, but I'm just curious about this increase in appetite. I've noticed he has grown some recently, so is it just to be expected of a healthy, growing hedgie?
I have also seen a few posts on here about "vibrating" hedgies, and my question is somewhat similar. Occasionally when Pelly is out and cuddling, he does the oddest thing. It's only when he's warm, comfortable, and completely relaxed though. Most of the time it occurs when he is curled up in my shirt. All of a sudden it's almost like he's got hiccups, because I can feel/see his little body pulse a bit. Now as I said above, he is happy and healthy, so I don't think it's anything detrimental. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? It really seems like hiccups, though when I uncover him to see what's going on, he usually stares back at me and then stops.
Thanks for any advice! (Pelly would say thanks as well, but he's busy sticking his head in a tube.)
