Hedgehog secret pals? - 2008/03/27 16:42
I was a member on Glider Central when I had a glider and they had a glider gift exchange amongest the members. I thought it was a cool idea and it was fun going out to shop for someone elses pet(s). Would this be an idea on here too? All the person in charge did was get everyones address, how many to buy for and any ideas on things their babies liked. Then, the names and addresses of those interested in playing were randomly given out secretly. I received toys, bedding and even a sugarglider charm. Anyone else think this would be fun?

wow this actually sounds like a lot of fun! i would totally be interested! i was part of another forum that did this as well. it was actually a "Secret Santa" type deal, but with the same concept. but unfortunately not everyone got someone else a gift. so there were some people that were out a gift. but i think it could work so long as everyone decides to play nice!

Oh my gosh! That would be so fun! An all year secret santa! Maybe to make sure people don't cheap out on gifts we could all start out getting somebody else... then once that is done then we do another one... kind of in order so that we make sure everybody is fair. Not that people on this site wouldn't be!
Good idea! I hope we can do something like that in the future!

Ok, ok. I guess I can't get you guys to lose interest, LOL.
If we are going to do a swap, we need to come up with some rules and a reasonable price limit.
We have people here from other countries, so I am going to need to know who is able to send over-seas (remember that postage is more expensive).
If you are interested, post here and I'll get a list going. Be patient with me, I have a lot going on, so I may be a bit slow.

I think maybe a $10-$15 limit would be reasonable. You can ship whatever way is cheaper. I know Priority starts at around $4 and First Class is even cheaper then that. Here are a few ideas on things people could think about as possible gifts:
Healthy and shipable treats and food
Hedgie friendly toys
Educational books
Cage accessories like bags, blankets, tunnels, etc.
Hedgie collectables
Hedgie jewelry (I have seen cute hedgehog charms on Ebay!)
Hedgie bath products like Aveeno, cute baby towels for drying, etc.
These are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head. I would suggest starting a message and have each member who is interested in participating to list some ideas on things they need and want and then when the list is made on which member gets who they can find out what that person would like most. Does this all make sense?

Sounds great, Erin. That's a good start of ideas, too! I'm very excited about this. I love surprises, giving and receiving
This would also be a good way to get things we might not have available where we live or haven't seen before. I could even make blankies/hedgebags as gifts. If I shipped out of country, my gift would probably be less $ to factor in the shipping costs. However, if we switched pals every so often, then it would be temporary and even more exciting (different people, personalities, tastes, ideas, etc.)
Maybe at the beginning we could be assigned to someone close-by, then we could rotate about every quarter or so.
Some will be able to afford more than others, but that would vary every time we changed (rotated, switched) people.
What info would you like? Besides our address, what about:
number of hedgies, sex and names of each
What else?
What would breeders like (since you have so many)? What comes to mind?
Any other ideas, suggestions?

So I'm only seeing 4 people who would be interested in doing 'Hedgehog Secret Pals'.
And if we do 'secret' pals, then you would email your name and address to me and I would email it only to your secret pal. I would also need a parental consent for anyone under 18.
If pals are not secret, I can just post the names of pals here and you can contact each other through the site.
But we need more then 4 people interested to do this.
