Penis question - 2008/04/08 02:33 There are some posts on Hedgehogs “enjoying” themselves but what does their penis look like when they’re having a special moment? Lychee had a little fall from the bed which didn’t seem to upset him too much but obviously as new Hedgie parents he’s been under close observation since. Last night I got him out and he wasn’t as active as usual when he had woken up and didn’t really like to be pet too much. I picked him up and there was a reddish blob about 0.5cm in diameter where his “bellybutton” should have been, but it . Because I had most the lights out it looked like it could have been an injury, although we had been checking him over meticulously since his little fall. Just want to make sure this is what I think it was and not something out of the ordinary.

Re:Penis question - 2008/04/08 07:18 They can get a prolapse or they can also get bedding stuck in there. There should be no redness there now. Sorry I have no pictures Ann

Re:Penis question - 2008/04/08 08:34 No it went away (back home). So a red bulge is right for an excited Hedgie?

Re:Penis question - 2008/04/08 11:16 The penis itself can vary in color, but reddish pink is an ok color, as long as it is not bulging out unable to go back in. If the hedgehog is fully aroused, the penis can be about the length of your pinkie finger and about as wide
So, don't panic.

Re:Penis question - 2008/04/09 01:55 Wow yes it's normal then. It was the width that got me, was worried it was an injury as it was going back in and looked like an outta place reddish bulge. Thanks

Re:Penis question - 2008/04/09 21:14 I've had 4 hedgehogs over a span of ten years as pets only. And Harley is my 2nd male. My 1st (male and hedgehog) Bartleby apparently was very well mannered or just shy. Harley ...bless his heart... isn't. So I know what you mean. At first I was going, what the heck happened?! He does have the good sense to appear embarrassed... sometimes.
