Not Eating - 2008/04/10 01:15 I got my Jas a wheel about 2 weeks ago. He went nuts for it and ran for about 8 hours a night. I noticed he stopped eating and drinking his water and his feet were raw. The vet said he had wheel fatigue and to take his wheel away which I did last Friday. Vet also said to syringe feed him so I have been mixing cottage cheese and his hedgehog food in a blender and feeding him. I put fresh food in his cage every day and he still refuses to eat. I don't want him to get used to being hand fed. I tried giving him cat food, treats, fruit and veggies and he still refuses to eat. How the heck do I get my Jas to eat? I am so worried about him.

Re:Not Eating - 2008/04/10 01:53 Put the same mix that you are syringe feeding him into a little bowl in his cage. Then stop syringe feeding him. If he's refusing to eat because he likes the syringe food, then he will have the option of eating it himself. He's being stubborn and wants to be spoon fed, so you just have to stop and force him to do it on his own.

Hedgehogs aren't stupid, he'll choose eating over death. He might try to hold out on you a little but stay strong. Montior output, cleaning the shavings or use a towel or liner. If there is output, there is input.

Re:Not Eating - 2008/04/11 21:51 On Wednesday I hand fed him a few pieces of his regular food before putting him in his cage in front of his food bowl. He ate a bit today. I did not hand or syringe feed him yesterday either and he ate a little bit of his regular food. However, he is only eating a little bit and not as much as he used to. So here's to hoping he starts eating more again.

Re:Not Eating - 2008/04/11 21:55 Don't worry, he's gotten the hint. If he's hungry, he will eat.
