Question... - 2008/04/12 09:29 I'm looking to get a hedgehog and was wondering if I kept her strictly in my room, would a stench carry throughout my house. I mean any at all, not just the bad ones.

Thanks!
Hopefully soon-to-be hedgehog owner!!!

Re:Question... - 2008/04/12 09:51 I've only had my hedgie for about 4 days but I am unbelievably surprised by how little smell she has. The only thing that even remotely smells are her poops but that is to be expected. Everyone's poops smell Every morning before work I get up and scoop them out. It takes less than five minutes and then there is no smell at all. Seriously I think my boyfriend smells more than her. Becky

Re:Question... - 2008/04/12 11:01 I've had my boy for three weeks and only noticed the smell of his wastes.

I think hedgehogs by nature are fairly clean animals and, correct me if I'm wrong, don't carry any smells.

Re:Question... - 2008/04/12 15:43 Hedgehogs don't have sent glands, so they themselves do not smell. As long as Cage cleaning is done one a regular basis, there should be little to no smell.

Re:Question... - 2008/04/12 17:18 When Ava is on her wheel and pooping and peeing up a storm she smells. I clean her wheel and litter tray every day and you wouldn't know it. It certainly doesn't carry through the house and I can only smell her waste when I'm standing directly over the cage and it is fresh.

I agree with Aaria... she definitely smells less than my boyfriend

LOL! I definitely agree! My boyfriend has to have the stinkiest feet! Even Omelette's poopyfeet don't compare! As far as any stench radiating through the my apartment, if Omelette poops I don't smell it if I'm in another room.

Re:Question... - 2008/04/13 08:47 The part that can begin to smell if you're not careful is the wheel. It really needs to be washed pretty much every day otherwise the poo/pee will build up and stink. Also if you keep your wheel clean then your hedgehog will not be running on a stinky and dirty wheel so it will keep him or her clean as well. Check out Ham's Blog !

Re:Question... - 2008/04/19 21:40 Hedgehogs may require constant upkeep when it comes to keeping the wheel clean but other than that they are smell free.
