Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/03/21 12:38 Julie,
They don't look albino to me, but seem to have some light banding....maybe it's just the lighting, but they sure look apricot/pinto to me!

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/03/21 12:56 Yeah that is the reflected light from the bright yellow pillow they are on. They are as white as can be. I cant tell if I think they look more like little trolls or coconut macaroons! Julie Pierce

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/03/21 13:27 They are SO cute! Little coconut macaroons....too funny

How old are they? They look a couple weeks old or so?

Adorable I too like the Albinos. I don't know what it is about them. Most albino animals are icky, but the hedgehogs are so gosh darn cute

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/03/21 13:35 I love albinos too. It makes me sad that they are often not desired by customers. I have 2 albinos, myself, Funkhowser and Clementine and they are both the sweetest, friendliest hogs in my herd..so I guess I am a bit partial
The babies will be 3 wks in a few days. Their eyes are just starting to open. Such a sweet age

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/03/21 14:56 If I ever get a second hedgie I would want it to be albino. I always am kind of scared of red eyes, but I agree it works with hedgies!!

Really cute! If I could come and steal one I would! Lol!

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/07 17:44 I did not know they are not desired by customers. I think they look really cute...actually they are all adorable. Your photography skills are amazing; how did you get them to pose like that LOL.

I think all of the different hedgie colors are cute. Of course my husband puffs up his chest and says "our hedgie is the cutest" and I just nod and agree. But really, all of the hedgies are so cute. I love seeing their little personalities, too.

Of course Spikey's color and pattern holds a special place in my heart because he is my first. But someday I hope to have another hedgie, too.

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/15 17:09 Awww.. they are cute. I like their facial expressions, like their little personalities are starting to show.

Is it hard to adopt these little hedgies out to people? Do you get sad when they go?

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/15 18:30 Within the first few hours of birth (or is it the first hour?) the spikes begin to poke through. There's a really cool article posted on this site under the breeding and babies section called, "Watch Me Grow"-

http://www.hedgehogworld.com/content/view/20/42/

And it shows how baby hedgehogs age into adults. Pretty cool stuff

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/15 19:58 I'm one of Julie's guilty customers who didn't want an albino baby... Carlo was really opposed to it actually more than I. But then he met Funkhowser and fell in love with how cute he is. All I keep hearing now is about how cute Ava's dad is and that maybe next time he wouldn't mind getting an albino. Whoever said women are the more fickle of the sexes, never met my boyfriend Ava's mom!

It is sad to say goodbye to them. I am a small breeder so I get to spend a lot of time with each baby which is wonderful but I do tend to get more attached than I should. This last litter of albinos will be especially difficult for me to say goodbye to as their Dad, Funkhowser just passed away on 4/14. He was my favorite hedgehog and had the most wonderful temperment. He was albino and having the little ones look like their dad is sweet and sad at the same time. I am keeping one of his daughters from this litter and we are naming her Opal She will be at hedgehogfest to meet everyone on May 3rd in place of her Dad.

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/15 21:50 We are so sorry to hear about Funkhowser

Hopefully Opal will fill his big shoes somewhat.

Ava sends her regards.

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/16 02:04 Julie, I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. But I'm sure Opal will make her dad proud.

Do albino hedgehogs tend to be more expensive or less? I've always wondered how prices differ depending on colors / markings.

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/16 12:08 Julie,
So sorry for your lost and really sorry I won't get to meet little Opal in person this year next year though.

We will have to have a play date I will bring Apple (Alb baby girl getting from Stasi in a few weeks) and her and Opal can "play" together

Maybe we will need to paint their nails so we can tell them apart LOL

Re:Albino baby pics - 2008/04/16 18:34 Hi all thanks so much for all your kind wishes. We buried Funkhowser under the tree in the back yard. We planted some pansies and put put a little hedgehog statue out there for him.

Baby Opal knows she has big shoes to fill but she is up for the challenge and is looking forward to meeting everyone at the hedgehogfest.
