Bath time tips - 2008/04/11 19:54 So...BeaBooBear is going to get a bath...as soon as Mommy figures out how to do that without making her angry. Any bath time tips to keep her content in the sink? I JUST got her to be a snuggler...I don't need her freaking out and reverting to her shy ways. Mommy loves...
Beatrix the pog,
Lizard the Water Dragon,
Graci the Shih Tzu,
And Uncle Buster the West Highland White...

Re:Bath time tips - 2008/04/12 17:47 Ava is fine with baths.

She can't ball up when she's in the water (we fill it a little bit) and tends to run toward us to try and climb up us to escape. Once the bath is over she's a little huffly but really likes to snuggle up to us to stay warm (and probably to seek some comfort after such a "terrible" experience).

I recommend being quick about it and having a nice towel ready for her to snuggle and borrow in when done.

Re:Bath time tips - 2008/04/18 10:28 BeaBooBear! That is so cute!

Here's how to give that first bath.
1. Clean your bathroom sink. (just to be safe)
2. Fill with a few inches of warm water to what would be BeaBooBear's belly. (Eyeball it, don't add the hedgehog to this equation just yet)
3. Add a bit of mild moisturizing liquid soap to the bath water, many folks here love Alveano Oatmeal moisturizing soap.
4. Have small towel, nail clippers (because bath time is perfect for nail clipping), a tooth brush (for cleaning feet and quills), a trashcan, toilet paper and a small cup standing by.
5. Put Beatrix in the sink and let her explore. While she does this use the cup to gently pour the bath water over her. She will try to climb out of the sink and will most likely poop while doing so. If you catch her BEFORE she goes you can hold her over the trash can... if not clean out sink and use the t.p, then refill and continue bath. LOL!
6. When you are done washing her, pour clean warm water over her.
7. Wrap her in the towel like a baby to dry her off. Most hedgehogs LOVE this part. It's also the perfect time to trim her nails.

You can give her a deeper bath, hedgehogs CAN swim. I like to start off with a shallow bath just over their feet or up to the belly because it makes that first bath easier. I also rub a bit of olive oil in my hands then run them over the hedgehog for a bit of moisturizer. And VIOLA! You have a clean hedgie...for now!

Yeah... definitely watch out for that she will try to climb out thing. Satin, for example, does NOT sit still in the sink. She scrambles and scrambles and scrambles to get O U T !!!

But does just fine in the bathtub... go figure...

Maybe that's because I often put toys in the bathtub - her truck, her wheel, her bowls... She roams around and checks them out.

So, my suggestion would be to do what Sara said. And if your little one decides it's not for her, that's okay. There are many options for next time

Good luck!
