Re:eating - 2008/04/21 20:48 When you introduce them to her put them in her food dish. Peanut generally won't try things the first time until I leave them in her dish. Then I guess she knows it's food and she will try them. She was scared of chicken and not interested in meal worms until I just added them to her food. Now she LOVES meal worms. She inhales them and then licks and bites the surface it was on. I think that also if you don't watch them eat it they are more likely to try something. She ate some pizza when I wasn't looking. I guess I shouldn't have left the dish on the couch Becky

Re:eating - 2008/04/22 11:02 I take a nibble of the treat and put it on the edge of Kiki's blankett ball with her wrapped up in it. She sniffs and either rejects it or decides to eat it. It took a while with this method, but at this point whe will try anything i put there.

Re:eating - 2008/04/22 16:29 I have two bowls for Dingo, one for his daily meals and the other for treats. Usually, I let him see that I put something in the other bowl then place it beside his other dish. It took him a bit to realize that, "Hey! This is different stuff!", but now he checks his treat bowl first before going to the other one Dingo's mom

Some hedgehogs just want their kibble and that's it. You can keep trying treats periodically to see if she tries them, but don't worry if she doesn't want them.

Re:eating - 2008/04/25 22:32 That might even be a good thing that your hedgie doesn't want treats. For me when I'm holding Tweetle and I go in the kitchen and open the fridge, he expects a snack just like me!!

Re:eating - 2008/04/26 13:56 Veggies are ok, but hedgehogs don't get a lot of of them, and they aren't necessary. Make you life easier and ditch the veggies.

Sometimes you have to offer things a few times before hedgehogs will decide to eat them. Just make sure she is primarily eating her cat food.

Ever seen that show.... Bizzare Food with Andrew Zimmerman?

Just keep trying new foods and remember some hedgies will wait to try the food when you aren't looking. Iz the hedge LOVED grapefruit and I have no idea why. Harley loves his mealies, chicken and peas of all things.

Never seen it... But if people are eating mealworms I don't think I'd want to
