quilling and VERY crabby!! - 2008/05/09 19:31 Hi
Our Fiona is 12 weeks and apparently quilling. Things were going well, she was getting more trusting of us taking her out to play and now suddenly as of yesterday LOTS of huffing and not wanting to be held at all. As I went to sit on my couch tonight and was pinched, I realized I was sitting on tiny little quills. I then opened up her little snuggler in her cage to find more quills, not tons but maybe 15-20 alltogether. She also usually just looks at us so cute from her cage when we walk by to say hello, but the past two days it's just HUFFING.

Should we just leave her alone for a few days while she is so huffy or continue to try to take her out to visit?? I'm new to this and just want to be sure she is comfortable but also don't want to set the bonding process back at all.
Thanks!

Re:quilling and VERY crabby!! - 2008/05/14 14:13 Keep socializing her and dont put her down when she acts up. Hedgies are clever and can be manipulative. If she learns that huffing will get her what she wants then the behavior will be reinforced. Dont give up on her..the time you put into her now will result in a friendly social hedgie down the road. This is the best advice ever! It's very true!

Your hedgehog is pretty darned smart for a little animal. And she will try to work you over. This strategy also works for poopers too. Wipe off as best you can but DON'T PUT THE HEDGEPIG DOWN! And a few weeks of this and they will stop pooping on you because honestly they don't like to be poopy unless they are on their wheel.
