Re:treats - 2006/03/16 20:25
Some hedgehogs love treats and will try everything put in front of them at least once. Other hedgehogs will have nothing to do with treats and will refuse to eat anything but their kibble. My Jasira only like her kibble and mealworms. Occasionally I can get her to nibble at a yogurt drop, but not very often. The best way to introduce a new food item is to offer it to your hedgehog once a day for a week. Some hedgies have been known to refuse the treat for days and days, then eat it toward the end of the week & look at you as if to say, "Why didn't you give this to me sooner?" Some will take treats from other people but not their owners. Others will refuse treats until they are older, sometimes a year or two old, and then they'll have a change of heart and start eating treats. My Jasira refuses anything and everything except her mealies and kibble and only gets angry and frustrated if I continue to try and give her a new treat. So basically, keep trying and who knows, depending on your hedgies personalities, it will either work or it won't. Helpful, huh. Hedgie hugs...Tiffany
