Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/04/13 02:33hehehe I definately think that I would rather bathe a hedgehog than a cat.... When you put a hedgehog in water, they tend to be all about the "SAVE ME!" and not about the "If I am going in, I am taking you with me" like my cat is. And oddly enough, this is the same cat that will get into the shower with you.... you just don't dare put her towards any form of water that she personally has not chosen. :-P Poop boot baths are especially simple... put them in something that will hold water and is too tall for them to easily climb out of, put about an inch of water in the container (or sink), and laugh as they run frantically all over the place trying to find "high ground". Usually within a couple of minutes, the poop boots are soaked loose, and voila... .clean hedgehog feet. If they are stuck super hard, you can either help wipe them off with your fingers or with a soft toothbrush. I don't recommend using your spouse's tooth brush though, it would probably make them quite crabby. Becca

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/04/19 23:51How often should you I give Marley a bath, and how often do I need to give him a foot bath. He pooped in his snuggle sack today and I think I saw some on his leg.

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/04/20 22:08Hey I dont generally give my hedgie just a foot bath because she just loves to swim around i put enough water for her to not touch the bottom and she has a great time. Sometimes when she gets tired i wil put something like a boul upsidedown in the sink and she puts her front feet on it and lets herself float around on the water if i make waves she moves with them. But its true they do do the help me thing when you put your hands or any elevated surface in as if a bit of water will kill them!! Is there a way to makethem stop pooping in the water or do i just have to live with it. I'd say she almost does it on purpose when I put fresh clean water in. Well anyways thats enough for me. I hope im not writing too much to bore you all out of your minds.I just love to talk about my little Sasha Thanks BYe Sabrina & Sasha

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/04/21 03:38Some hedgehogs do enjoy swimming or floating in water, but others definately do not. Making hedgehogs stop pooping in the water... hrm.... well.... If you figure out how, let me know! Becca

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/06/20 02:32I use unscented baby wipes to wipe the boys wheels and if the wheels are really nasty, I use a clean baby wipe and wipe their feet and legs. I bought the kind with Aloe and vitamin E in them. The boys dont mind it and I can do it quickly. I read somewhere that you can spot clean their quills with these too although I have yet to try that. The unscented Parent's Choice wipes from Walmart are really cheap and work well.Cyn and Hedgie Boys

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/06/20 07:37Occasionally, you'll find the.....disturbing hedgehog who loves floating on their back. I had no idea they could even do this, however, Donatello absolutely took joy in his ability to float on his back. He'd relax, and stay floating for a good 10 minutes before he'd roll himself over and start swimming again. I'm gonna try and attach a picture of the 2# floating monster.Stasi Terrapin Hedgehogs Joppa, MD www.terrapinhedgehogs.com

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/06/20 23:07Well, I've learned that Lucy will walk around for awhile then poop, then pee, then poop. I can then let the water down and we're good to go!
I'd like to see that picture of the hedgie doing the backfloat!

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/09/21 19:26As soon as my hedgie even HEARS the water he runs right into the crook of my arm and acts like he's sleeping. He burrows in as hard as he can. Then of course he does the "SAVE ME!" run while I am holding him in the water. He's a good climber too, I can't seem to find a dish or sink he can't escape from. I keep telling him if he doesn't want to take a bath he shouldn't get his feet so dirty, but he never listens. I am a busy person so the time I spend with him is at night after class/club/fraternity things, and I spend 2 hours with him every night after his bath. Do you think this would make him avoid time with me because he fears a bath? I do take him out once in a while without a bath, but like I said, other than the times I come home for a few hours and play with him as a stress reliever, he gets a bath every night. He also gets tired out and likes to snuggle after getting wet. Though he does curl up when I take him out everytime, he doesn't go full out prickers! I can safely scoop him up and never get poked. Then again I do always have to wake him up because if he's not running or eating he's curled up in his little bed snoozing away(he runs for HOURS), and he uncurls in less than a minute.

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/09/22 14:52My two boys will try to climb up my arm, my shirt, my hair if it isn't tied back and anything else they can get a paw on to get out of the bath. They are really into the "save me, this water is trying to kill me" thing. I just laugh and say oh you're ok and finish their bath. Silly little boys!Cyn and Hedgie Boys

Re:water + hedgehog = - 2006/09/22 16:02I will normally put a small amount of water in and wait until they poop, then I let it all go down the drain and rinse the sink and give the "real" bath. I also find that letting the water run in the sink seems to trigger them to "go" quicker. Just make sure it's not too hot or too cold!Nicole www.pricklypairhedgehogs.net Check out our available babies page!
