how horrible!!! - 2006/06/06 23:52Hi everybody, I was using pine shavings, but it was getting everywhere around the house, so I decided to try that carefresh stuff and see if it would work better. It was a complete disaster!!! Peanut hated it!!! First, I think it gave his some kind of allergy or something, because I would sometimes find a little bit of blood on his hedgiebag, as soon as I made the trade. I could not quite tell where it was coming from, though. And it would also get really stuck to his feet and to his private parts after it got wet. Also, I noticed he would not come out of his bag anymore, because all the mess was inside of it and everything very clean on the rest of the cage, even the wheel. As soon as I changed back to pine, he was so much happier and everything went back to normal: no more blood, and mess everywhere else... like it's suppose to be Has anyone have this happen to them before??? Tatiana.

Re:how horrible!!! - 2006/06/07 03:58What a silly boy! Carefresh is normally not a bedding known to cause irritation, but different hedgehogs have different preferences. :-P Glad you figured out what his issue was! Becca

Re:how horrible!!! - 2006/06/07 05:08Good, because when I read this post I got nervous. I plan on using Carefresh because I've heard such great things about it. I hope nobody else has problems like this. I'm glad your hedgehog is all better now

Re:how horrible!!! - 2006/06/07 15:09Carefresh may have changed their product. The one I used to get was gray colored. I just got a new bag and it is brown and seems to stick more and has a different texture. I have not had any problems with it though.Ann Connecticut Hedgehogs

I use the Carefresh Ultra too $15 for a medium bad. It's worth it though. It's soft, easy to clean & looks nice & Murphy loooovvvveees to dig in it. I bought the white kind becuase the brown just looks nasty. My hedgie loves it.

yeah, i tried using liners too, but my girls like to burrow too much. i felt bad taking that away from them. besides the liners turned out to be a pain. the colored carefresh was nice to, but with two hogs i now have a much larger cage and the colored stuff only comes in the smallest size bag. besides i too like the look of the ultra. how is little murphy doing? i believe i met you at kelly's little gathering in may. you got the little boy that came down for a visit with the girly hogs. i'll have to send you a pic, i think i got one of him, he was so cute and tiny then!~Blessed Be~ Alison and a house full of hogs. Yup that was me with the little munchkin that day. Murphy is doing great. He's still a little on the grumpy side but comes around eventually. I'm assuming it's just from the quilling. I just got back from a 5 day vacation & was very surprised to see how much he had grown. I had a friend take care of him & I swear she fed him growing pills or something
He has his first vet appointment on Monday so I'm kind of excited to see how that goes.
I'd love that picture if you have it. For now here's one from about a week ago. I'll have to post some more once I get them sized down.
