Stubborn Quilling? - 2006/06/28 20:35 Lucy is 4 months old now, and near as I can tell, she hasn't gone through the quilling she was supposed to go through between 8-12 weeks. She's actually 17 weeks old now. We picked her up at 9 weeks and have never seen her lose any quills, other than after her full bath on June 19th when she lost quite a few quills over the course of a few days. She was also pretty happy while doing it too.

Anyway, she has stopped losing the quills and has turned into quite the cranky pants. She doesn't want to be touched on her back or on her hind-end (her favorite place to be scratched). She really starts jumping and huffing when we touch her there. She'll let us hold her if we only touch her on her tummy.

She's eating and drinking, but has not wheeled in a week and really won't play with any toys or free-range play when we have her out. She just sits in one place, grumpy.

Do you think she's late with her quilling or could she have gone through it with the breeder? Could her skin be really tough and the bath helped it along somewhat?

I'm going to give her another bath today and see what happens. I wasn't going to give her one this soon after her last one, but she's such a grumpy butt, and the last one made her so happy afterwards, I thought I would give it a try.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Re:Stubborn Quilling? - 2006/06/28 21:07 Her behavior sounds like it could be quilling related, though she is a bit later than normal. Baths can help soften the skin and soothe things so that she would feel a little better, so give it a try and see how it goes. If you see any pussy, scabby, or otherwise obviously irritated, you should take her to the vet for a check to make sure she does't have an infection, bug bite, or something else unpleasant.
