Re:good liner ! bad bedding? - 2006/07/04 16:44 Yep, liners can be great for hedgehogs, if you don't mind the added laundry. You can either buy pre-made liners from online, or you can get a vellux blanket from walmart and cut it into the appropriate size for your cage. One blanket should make several liners for ya, and you would have scraps left over for blankies for your hedgehog.

Re:good liner ! bad bedding? - 2006/07/04 17:32 I love my liners! I have several liners for Lucy that I made. I made mine in 3 layers, fleece on the bottom, cotton batting in the middle and cotton for the top. I think some people use courdery for the top. I used lighter colors so I could see if Lucy was bleeding anywhere or having any trouble with anything.

But like Becca said, it doesn't have to be that complicated, vellux blanket from walmart and cut it into the appropriate size for your cage.

I have several made up so I'm not constantly doing "Lucy Laundry". I wash her stuff in unscented detergent with an unscented liquid fabric softener. She doesn't like the scented laundry detergent or fabric sheets.

It's a breeze to clean the cage also.

Re:good liner ! bad bedding? - 2006/07/05 02:32 I just bought some liners and bags for our new hedgie from Nancy of the Hedgie Den (http://www.freewebs.com/thehedgieden/cageliners.htm). They should be here soon and I'm looking forward to getting rid of the shavings. You can email Nancy at the address on her site if you have any questions. She'll make exactly what you want. She sent me some pictures already of the liners she made, so I'll try to attach one here. You can make them yourself too of course, but I'm not that swift with sewing.

Huffs,
Tim

For those who do not like to sew, I found that fake (or faux) lambswool makes a good cage liner, especially in the winter. Mine was originally supposed to be a dog crate liner or something like that and I cut it into a bunch of smaller pieces to fit my cages. No sewing required and it was not expensive (on sale at walmart) and it stays in place really well and doesn't get all rumpled up.
