Sandy Tunnel? - 2006/09/17 20:08 I found this in the latest Critters USA magazine:

http://www.exoticnutrition.com/HOLLOW%20LOGS.htm

has anyone used it? It seems like it would help to file nails a bit, but will it hurt little hedgie feet? What do you think?

Re:Sandy Tunnel? - 2006/09/18 00:04 It looks like it might be ok to use on a temporary basis. but I don't think it would be good to keep it in the cage all the time. It's also a bit pricy and I am concerned that both gliders and hedgehogs use the same size tube.

Re:Sandy Tunnel? - 2006/09/18 00:14 I think I would be concerned about my boys rubbing or chewing the sand paper part off. I can't tell by looking if they painted the sandy coating on or just glued sandpaper on it. Hmm, my luck neither boy would touch it. LOL Cyn and Hedgie Boys

Re:Sandy Tunnel? - 2006/09/18 02:05 I don't plan on buying this- I think it's an interesting idea though. I know that alot of companies make things that they claim are good for certain types of animals, but in reality may not really be safe...

Re:Sandy Tunnel? - 2006/09/18 14:06 Oh the thought is wonderful. I really get nervous cutting these little guys nails because their feet are so tiny and they are such nervous little critters. It would be great to find something like this that would really work. Cyn and Hedgie Boys

Re:Sandy Tunnel? - 2006/09/18 16:20 I don't have any intentions of buying them personally...... Hedgehogs don't run on the tips of their toes like some animals do, they run flat on their paws, which means the bottoms of their feet will get a lot more contact with the sand than the nails will. If you do decide to get one, watch the feet carefully for any damage, and be prepared to pull it if your hedgehog does scrape up it's feet too badly.

Re:Sandy Tunnel? - 2007/03/16 16:31 I just ordered a TUNNEL not a wheel from exotic nutrition. I'm hearing Pippi dig in her cozy bag and she wears out two grown adults at nail cutting time.
I don't plan on keeping it in her tank all the time, normally during the day I pull out her wheel and wash and dry it and put it back late in the evening when her activity begins. So, during the day I will put the tunnel in with some cloths, maybe she'll cozy into that and scratch down those nails - that's the plan, will let you know the quality of this product and if this idea works. (and the customer service guy at exotic nutrition was very nice and answered some of my other questions).
