Food storage - 2006/10/20 12:55 I learned something new yesterday.

I read an article which said that most pet food storage bins are not made out of food safe plastics and can allow ethoxquin to mix with the kibble and also aflatoxin mold can build up in the bottom of the container.

It sounded sort of off the wall to me but I asked my husband who worked in the plastics industry for a long time and he said that it is true and there is a difference in the types of plastics used in human food storage v other storage containers.

So if you are looking for new containers, you are better off buying ones meant for human food storage or ones which have an inner liner of a different type of plastic to prevent this from happening.

Re:Food storage - 2006/10/21 04:25 I store the mix the boys are currently using in country crock margarine bowls in the refrigerator and the rest of the food I leave in the bags it came in in the freezer. Guess I am safe but that is good to know. I used to keep my guinea pig food in a non food container. Wish I had known this then. Cyn and Hedgie Boys
