tube trouble - 2005/06/20 06:57 Tiggy was playing with her toilet tissue tube in the little yard I have set up for her. I noticed little red foot prints, and realized she was injured. She let me pick her up and when she unballed, she stuck her little legs out and I could see a small wound just about her foot. I checked the tube, there was blood on there too. She seems fine today, and I can't find the place where she was cut. I think it may have been a paper cut? Has anyone had this happen, and are toilet tubes really safe to give hedgies as toys? Any help would be appreciated.

Re:tube trouble - 2005/06/20 17:42 I have had the occasional tuber get too excited and scrape a foot. I usually remove the tubes for a day or two from that hedgehog to let it heal, but other than that, I have had no serious issues with tubing in normal sized hedgehogs. If you have a very small one, you may need to make a "pixie" sized tp tube for that one. My girl Zainabu is small and VERY determined to tube, so if there is an unattended tube within her reach, she gets herself wedged in. :-P

Re:tube trouble - 2005/06/20 19:54 Thanks so much Becca. Tiggy has had no tube for 2 days now, and her foot looks fine. I will try to give her another tube tonight, it is so fun to watch her play with them!

Re:tube trouble - 2005/06/26 00:40 Nettles got stuck in the tube and ended up with blood all over. I now only give her tubes slit up the side.

Re:tube trouble - 2005/07/21 02:05 It's just a flesh wound!

(sorry, couldn't resist)

I've never had any problems using TP tubes. I have switched from TP tubes to making tubes the same size out of fun foam (available at craft stores) and hot glue.
