Litterbox flooring? - 2006/12/14 04:18 hello, I intend to attempt to train my hedgie to go to the bathroom in a homemade, tupperware litterbox. I was wondering, what should I put as its flooring? I read somewhere that cat litter is ok, but my friend said that they will have allergic reactions to it, and might attempt to eat. She suggested I use paper towels. What is best? thanks

Re:Litterbox flooring? - 2006/12/14 14:22 I use paper towels in mine and they work great. BUT if you have a rambunctious hedgie,they may pull the paper towel out of the litter box and drag it around their cage. If you use litter, make sure its non clumping. Julie Pierce

Re:Litterbox flooring? - 2006/12/14 16:19 In the past I've had good luck with yesterdays news as a litter, or untreated wood pellets. Right now I use Aspen shavings in my large cage and I just placed a large container with Aspen in it as well for a litter box. I put the food dish and water bottle in it, and I only have to clean the large cage a few times a year. ( I change the litter pan every week). Putting the food in the pan sounds gross, but if the pan is big enough, that's where they usually end up going anyways, or on the wheel!
