I use bedding rather than liners-I like it better and so do my hedgehogs. Some people swear by liners though-really up to you which you use.

or maybe the people didn't know what to say or had nothing to say.

Since I'm a monitor, I make sure to at least view every post. Now that we have more people here answering questions, a lot of times someone has already chimed in with the ansewer.

Re:Cage Liners - 2007/03/07 13:15 I had thought about using liners at one point, but decided since I don't really like doing my own laundry I don't think I want to add hedgehog laundry to my list of things to do. Besides all my kids seem to really like rooting around through the shavings so I felt bad taking that away from them. ~Blessed Be~

Re:Cage Liners - 2007/03/10 20:27 I don't use "real"liners, but did have luck using just a cut piece of fleece (Malden Mills is nearby and they have cheap, cheap, cheap "scraps".) I use a disposable alumnimum tray underneath the wheel and put one of those disposable bed pads on it from CVS. Cleanup is a breeze and I rarely had to change the fleece. One package of the CVS pads goes a long way (much cheaper and safer than wee pads (no chemicals). I cut each one up into four.
Although I also use carefresh and find that just as easy too! - Especiallly since Milo isn't as neat as Snowflake!

Re:Cage Liners - 2007/04/15 11:13 Sorry for posting so late. I don't come here often anymore since I'm pretty used to taking care or our little Eddie now. Got him from Kelly last year and he turns 1 this month!

But anyway, I started with bedding and tried a couple of different types (carefresh and others). I didn't like how I'd always pull out a bunch of shavings whenever I took Eddie out. And found it inconvenient/messy to change too. I ordered liners from Nancy (exactly the link that hedgehoglover posted) and have never looked back. Eddie's wheel is in his litter pan and he uses the litter pan exclusively. Not a drop or poop anywhere else. If your hedgie likes to use a litter pan, then liners are fantastic. I find no need to change the liner more than weekly because it just doesn't get messy or smelly at all. Could even go longer than weekly I guess, but I change it every weekend out of habit. And changing liners is a snap with no mess! I would try your hedgie on a pan before switching to liners though. I'm not sure the liners would beat bedding if your hedgie doesn't use a litter pan. At least that's my take on the great liner debate!

By the way, Nancy makes fantastic liners if anyone is wondering. I'm sure many people could make their own, but I'm not much for sewing!
