Re:leak proof bottles... - 2007/03/17 07:26 The ones I have that never leak are spring loaded critter canteens made by Superpet. Problem is.....some of the hedgehogs won't use them because the water comes out slower and they have to work harder. So I have to be careful who I give them to.

All the other brands I've used, I get a leaky one every once in a while. When you are at the store, check the inside seal. The edges should be smooth so you get a better seal.

Re:leak proof bottles... - 2007/03/17 07:27 I wish I could say I had found the answer to that problem. My boys were on bottles the first year and I never found any that did not leak. That is why I switched them to bowls. I did find that squeezing the bottle while tightening the cap so that air rushed out when the cap was tight to create a seal helped stop a lot of the leaking. However, both of mine seemed to have figured out how to make the bottles leak again. LOL. Cyn and Hedgie Boys

Re:leak proof bottles... - 2007/03/17 10:21 I've found over the years that replacing the washer inside tends to help. For the typical 8 oz bottles I have a guy who makes washers out of neoprene for me.

Alison, if that's what you're using, give Kelly or I a holler and we'll get some to you. That goes for anyone else, they're not too expensive - I would want reimbursed for the expense and shipping, but it's nominal.

I can't guarantee they'll fix the problem, but that's been my experience for the majority.

Re:leak proof bottles... - 2007/03/17 12:45 I have my second hedgie and they both loved bowls - little ceramic ones from the pet store. May I suggest you put it in the corner to secure its back, away from the litter area or wheel. Works fine, easier to clean and I feel more sanitary than a bottle.

Re:leak proof bottles... - 2007/03/17 13:32 I have tried using a bowl but once they are up and about and "partying" the bowl just fills with shavings, especially my cage that has 5 girlies running around it. I have tried the bottles you are talking about Ann, they are fabulous, or would be if only someone would drink out of them!I may take you up on that Stasi, first I'm going to try to getting a couple of new bottles, the ones i have i've had for a while or else they came with my rescued hoggies. thankie all! ~Blessed Be~
