Ok all, time to stop lurking and introduce yourself! We have a good number of members, an AMAZING number of visits to the site, and new members joining daily.... However, the majority of our posts are coming from a very small percentage of our membership! NOT FAIR!!!!!! Even if you feel you don't have much to add to most discussions, we still want to hear from you. Lets see how many members we can get to post in this thread and provide a brief introduction to themselves. Lets see... some questions to get you started....

How did you get involved in the crazy world of hedgehogs?- I saw a hedgehog on tv, thought it was cute, and went to work the next day telling my co-workers about the show. One of my coworkers happened to have one that needed a new home. She came to live with me. Her name was Vanna Gogh. There are pictures of her on the front page of my web site, www.daisymeadows.com, with my two daughters, who are now SIGNIFICANTLY older. :-P

How did you get involved in the crazy world of hedgehogs? I was surfing the internet and found a picture of a hedgehog and fell in love. I then researched as much as I could about them and hunted down Kelly over the internet. She's had a perma-stalker ever since.

I got her from my coworker who bought her out of the newspaper from a girl that didn't want her anymore, then decided he didn't have enough time for her since he has a baby also. She didn't really have a name and I was told she was a male, so I named her Rocky. Now she's here to live out the rest of her life in my zoo!

How did you get involved in the crazy world of hedgehogs?
It all started when my two guinea pigs raised from wee ones died within a month of each other. My hubby is seriously, emergency room kind, allergic to most things with fur or feathers so I was hunting for a pet he could live with. Got on a site about exotic pets, saw my first hedgehog and that was all it took. My first boy, Herbie, was flown in from a breeder in Illinois. He loved my hubby, tolerated me but broke my 10 year old's heart because he did not adjust to him. Went into a pet store to buy toys for Herbie, met Snowball who fell asleep in my son's hand and then mine and home he came. Love these little quilly guys more than I can say.
By the way, great idea!

How did you get involved in the crazy world of hedgehogs? Hedgies feature semi-regularly on cuteoverload.com, which I must check at work every now and then to get my animal fix for the day. After seeing a few adorable pictures, I decided to do a little research and was surprised at how many people seemed to lerv these little guys as pets. Some more research and discussing with my boyfriend ensued (we live in an efficiency, so space was definitely something to talk about) before I contacted a local breeder living in Joppa, MD  We did a visit first to see some hedgies, which sealed the deal for me--the next time we visited Joppa, we took our little girl home.

I saw my first hedgie at a place on Cape Cod called Zooquarium (yup combo zoo and aquarium tourist place) and they were doing a little presentation on hedgehogs..well all it took was one look and I knew I had to have one. It was a few years after that that I found a breeder and purchased the "Queen" of Pierce's Pogs - Annabelle and a little while later I purchased our beloved "Funkhowser" from Kelly..the rest is history

I was looking for a cool original pet to care for... I do not know why I had the crazy idea of getting a pet... but then again, I guess I like giving affection and taking care of little things.
I love dogs, however I know that I do not have the time and patience to give to them... dogs require so much love and time...
I love cats, used to own a family of cats... then I devalopped alergies...
I still love cats... but I can't live with one.
I Wish to own a parrot or one of them really smart birds of similar family...
They are some of the greatest pets, they love you... however, they need as much affection as dogs... and also, I can't afford one right now...
I love pigs... I find pigs absolutely adorable... little pink ones...
After doing my homework, I realized that they are not all little pink pigs like in anime cartoons.
They grow up to 150pounds (not to bad on size tho)
They need as much time and affection as a dog and require more special little things...
I found out about hedgehogs, looked into them and told myself that this is the pet for me.
Easy to care for, do not require too much time, has character, takes time to gain their trust....
However, to be honest, if I were to redo my decision, I would have taken a guiny pigs... they are not grumpy and my neices could play with them... (I might consider one later on... so the neices can stop disturbing my poor little baby hogi whenver I am not around)
I was not going to get one because I did not know where, but a co-worker (A Crazy Lady) found a pet shop that had 3 hedgehogs for sale... so we bought all their hogs...
No regrets, I wish it was a more playful animal... but I am patient, and I will give him all the time he wants.

I came across a picture on the net and i instantly fell in love with them, i did some more research and tracked down a breeder and, well, you all know the rest. They are such fascinating little critters and my only regret is that i never got one sooner.

Hm..I was interested in them about a year ago and Jokingly said we should get some, I have owned Bearded Dragons for a long while, I have probably owned about 15 of them, plus 3 Blue Tongue Skinks, 3 Anoles, Probably 15-20 Leopard Geckos, I saw someone on a Bearded Dragon Forum that got one, then I saw another person, then I joined a forum, Then I read up on them, Then I sold all my Beardies (  ) I miss them, But I had to do one or the other (I think I might get some more down the road) and I sold a leopard gecko (Don't like 'em much anyone, They are really mean, Even though my Leopard Gecko was as nice as a Beardie *Strange*) Then I contacted Tig - HedgeHogValley, and she said she would have some at the end of the month so during that time I sold my Bearded Dragons and stuff, and on Saturday I just got two! Yesterday my male bit me once and it didn't hurt and the 2nd time it really hurt, I read how to get them off of you but I was able to do it myself, I realized the poor little guy was hungry, I had had him out for about an hour and he had been awake and was hungry..poor guys..But then today I was letting him explore my room and I touched him when I was by my Violin case and he started Hissing and me and moving his head toward where I was. Was he just scared?? Then I used his HedgeBag to Pick him up encase he bit me cause he was scared his hissed but then once he got up into my hand on the hedgebag he was fine and seemed nice and happy. Welp that's my Story!

Then when we got married 2 years ago...I wanted a pet, but my husband has bad allergies...so my hopes for a dog are long gone...until we went to a pet store and saw a little hegehog. We spent the next 6 months discussing and researching....then we finally got Pepper. Hopefully we'll be getting another (for my husband) from a breeder in Manitoba this summer....

I owned two hermit crabs, and decided when I moved from a dorm into an apartment that I wanted a furry, cuddly pet. Somehow I decided that a hedgehog fit those criteria...? I came to this website, where I found a link to Sarah's (illinidairychick) breeding site. She's right in the same town as me, so as soon as I got the cage and supplies ready, I went over there and she put little baby Kumquat in my hands. And the rest is history!

I always thought hedgehogs were cute and after some research I decided to get one. Unfortunately, he died 6 months later from some neurological issues. Then we got our current hedgies who are very healthy, sometimes happy, and sometimes grumpy but we love them no matter what their temperment.

I've wanted a hedgehog since I was 10 years old but was never allowed. My bf was against it as well...so one night I walked in to my exotic petstore downtown and saw my little guy and knew I had to get him...it was love at first sight! He was my christmas present to myself hehe!

How did you get involved in the crazy world of hedgehogs? I've always wanted some sort of crazy, not the norm, pet. Something small and furry, and something not many people know about. I originally had my sites set on degus, but then I started looking at hedgehogs, which are more common, and realizing how adorably cute the little guys are. I'm still jealous of my friend who has a squirrel though, but now I will have a little critter of my own to cuddle which is especially good since all I have now at school is a fish. I love him to death, but I can't cuddle him or play with him very much. I have a fat terrier at home who has an attitude, so I like the idea that I will have a miniature plump guy at school with a personality. I love animals with personality and its hard here sometimes without my dog.

None yet my breeding pair arrives in a month to month in half, we had one for a longtime or as my husband called it a 10 gallon Sharp's Container (my husband named him Sharp as I am a diabetic and he thought it was cute) but he crossed the rainbow bridge this a couple of dec ago . RIP Sharp's.

My high school had them and as I became very talent when it came to handling/working them. They put me in charge of breeding and caring for them during my 4 years there so that is when I feel in love with them. Then my then boyfriend fell in love with an Albi in a petstore and so we brought home Sharp's and so began our life with a hedgie.[color=#800080][/color]

How did you get involved in the crazy world of hedgehogs? Against my better judgment, my daughter got a hedgehog, after having wanted one forever. Since we already have too many animals, too many jobs, too many school activities, too many vet bills, and too much to do, I just thought it was not a good time to add another animal. Now, of course, I adore her. It's hard to be the tough guy enforcer when you love all the animals people bring home!

How did you get involved in the crazy world of hedgehogs:I had hedgehogs as garden pets and as rescues when we lived in England, when i was little. i have always loved them. My hubby remembers them from his home of Russia. although they are both way different from the african pygmys we own today.. i would love to get my hands on the other species of hedgies... my kids are on the road to being hedge addicts too.
Has anyone got any news on the hedgie show in WA this year? would love to be able to plan to attend...

We live with his parents and aren't allowed anymore dogs/cats so we wanted a caged animal. We found hedgehogs, did tons of research and found a breeder close to us. Ended up on cuteoverload.com and completely fell in love with hamor hollow's sleepy little pascal! There was no stopping me after that! lol Ever since i have been obsessed with the little things. My friends & family are ready for me to get one, just in hopes that i won't talk about them as much!
