Switching Foods - Any suggustions? - 2007/05/16 09:21 I have had my hedgehog on Royal Canin which she has loved. Unfortunately, they changed the shape of the kibble from X's to these round O's. My hedgie doesn't seem to like them as much. I think it is purely the shape. I might break apart this kibble in the bag I have until it is gone. However it isn't something I want to do every day.

So what does everyone feed their hedgies? I have heard to feed Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul but I am not sure I can find that. So I would like some back up brands when I go out searching.

Thanks in Advance

Re:Switching Foods - Any suggustions? - 2007/05/16 10:17 If you look around in the forum, quite a few people have listed their brands.
Some of the easiest to find that I use are Purina kitten chow, Iams Multi-cat, Max cat. Others I like, but can be harder to find, include Exclusive cat, and Solid Gold cat.

Mine loved to play hedgehog hockey with the round O's. It was quite funny-but no they did not eat much of it so it was out of my mix pretty quick.

Re:Switching Foods - Any suggustions? - 2007/05/17 13:26 I am not even sure if I should try to finish the bag at this point. I can tell her eating is less because of the shape. I worry because she is a super picky eater. I used to give her all kinds of treats like bananas, a little bit of egg, things like that as fun extras. She won't even touch them anymore. All she would eat is Royal Canin and mealies. I wish I could get samplers of the dry food .

We'll see how it goes .

Re:Switching Foods - Any suggustions? - 2007/05/17 14:51 Try purina kitten chow. Most of mine love it, it is available in a smaller box and it would be a good starting point for a new mix. And the pieces of kibble are smaller cause its kitten rather than cat food which may be a big plus in your case. Ann

Re:Switching Foods - Any suggustions? - 2007/05/18 09:47 Ann has a good suggestion, I'd also suggest trying the Fancy Feast dry food. All of the hedgies here like that one too. Stasi

Re:Switching Foods - Any suggustions? - 2007/05/23 09:57 Well I went out and decided to try a bag of Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers soul lite. She hasn't resumed normal eating patterns, she is the most picky eater. I am just hoping maybe over time she will like it more. I said I know she is stubborn but there is nothing I can do! If she doesn't like I guess I will have to just go out and keep buying bags of food until she eats something. UGh.

Re:Switching Foods - Any suggustions? - 2007/07/14 12:54 We just brought home our baby 2 weeks ago. I found 2 ways to get samples of different foods to try. The first was e-mailing, or calling the companies. Most are great about sending samples. In fact, Sunseed sent me an entire cannister of their hedgehog food!
The second thing to do is to check out independent pet stores. A lot of them have samples of lots of different foods.
Good luck!
