Taking to the Litter Pan - 2007/06/04 14:18
I am training Cotton for the litter box- but I've heard males are easier to train than females, so maybe that's why she's having issues learning the litter box
I have a bucket wheel, and a pan for a litter tray that I cut a side out so she can easily get in and out. You know those plastic/flexible silicone baking dishes they are coming out with nowadays? I bought a smaller square sized one so that Cotton wouldn't hurt herself, and she loves it. I put it right in front of the wheel, and she can walk herself right over the edge of it... She hates using the actual door I made for her :-P.
But anyway, I line it with Yesterday's news for ferrets, and every time I see a terd that is outside her litter box, I put it in. Since I put her litter box in front of her wheel, she has been using it instead of the wheel! She still pees in the wheel, but I think because the litter box is so close to her wheel now, she feels she can make it to the pot without having too much time distracted away from her running. Eventually, I will gradually move the litter box away from her wheel and train her that way. Everytime that I clean out her litter however, she forgets to use the litter box (even if it is right beside her wheel). I'm thinking she probably doesn't smell her poop in it and can't figure out where to go
Anyone else want to share their litter training stories/ideas?
