Beca just pointed out what I meant to say earlier. Because he's only a year and a half you want to keep his teeth as healthy as possible to keep trying to steer him towards kibble and crunchy foods. With older hedgehogs, sometimes kibble isn't worth the fight. Poor Pepper's had a rough week huh? But your husband is ingenius.
