I was worried about that, but she hasn't done it again since and seems fine. I'm keeping her with the male at the moment and they seem to be much more close than usual now, but I don't think they've mated, as I would think it makes noise at night and I am keeping them in my bedroom. And don't worry about the male attacking anyone as he's scared of his own shadow. LMAO.
How do I know if she's pregnant though, how do I make sure?

Post edited by: Darkest Maiden, at: 2008/03/20 09:23
You need to separate them right away. Some hedgehogs do not make ANY noise when they mate, and may not show any signs of mating either. It's likely that the bit of blood was from mating. You'll need to get her into her own cage, and give her a nest box. There is no way to tell for sure that a hedgehog is pregnant without getting an ultrasound at the vet closer to her due date (generally 35 days after mating). There are articles here on World about breeding, do read up and feel free to ask any other questions you may have. DO separate them now. If she is pregnant, and delivers the babies around the male, it's not just him you have to worry about, most females will kill the offspring also.
