I just recently switched over to liners. I was using aspen shavings before. I didn't like how expensive it could be, how smelly it was (especially after being mixed with urine and feces), how messy it was, and it also wasn't very absorbent. I think Carefresh is probably the only bedding that I actually like using. I use it for my hamster and for Omelette's litter tray. It doesn't have any of the problems as mentioned above. At least IMO. If you are interested in using liners, you can make your own out of fleece. I went to my local fabric store and bought about a yard of fleece and just folded it over. Two pieces of fleece I think are sufficient enough.
