is there soft kibble? - 2008/04/25 08:58
My 4-1/2 year old Max had a great check up at the vet - the clavamox worked great on the uti and strep, no more blood in his urine. Even though he is looking great and very active, he has not been eating all his kibble. The image of the inside of his mouth will be forever burned into my brain of only a few teeth left in there.
I am stunned, she says he had all is teeth last summer and she says this is not unusual for a hedgehog his age. She said to moisten his kibble.
Max is the one who came with a big orange bag of Iams and would touch nothing else, he cleaned his bowl every night. He loved crunching. So I try to moisten the kibble - it balloons up and becomes soggy and he won't touch it.
He's hungry, I can tell and when I put a little dish of some other kind of kibble out he now runs and tries it and then gives up. He never wanted worms before but he is happy to get them now, how many of these can I give this old guy?
He's never wanted scrambled eggs or ground turkey or tuna, but I will try them again but I am not optimistic.
He has just refused Gerber Baby Meat sticks. I bought that Pounce 'moist' cat chews and cut them up and he wouldn't touch them and then I read about a voluntary recall so I tossed them. ARE THERE STILL RECALL FOODS?
Someone told me all cats love Temptations for they are soft inside. I felt through the package, they seem pretty hard and he'd have to chew through them but I'd gladly cut them up if someone tells me their hedgies like them.
Are there any moist kibble out there. I will pick up canned cat food today, but I'm not optimistic for he really hates food with strong smells that are mushy.
I was wondering about those meat in pouches, does anyone use them and what brands are safe and popular with hedgies?
He's been so sick and through so much, it just isn't fair that one of his few pleasures is eating hardily and now he can't do that. My poor sweet Max, he is the best hedgehog of the five I've had and he is now a toothless old man. I know the breeders here have strong opinions, and I would appreciate no lectures just product suggestions that have worked well for their hedgies.
