Umm, just softly smell from soil, my hedgehogs were wanted to be self-anointed too.
Well, I guess you can train your hedgehog not to bite. If he do it, you use your finger and push it to his nose (Don't Hit Him!!!! everything will be more complicated and hard to train) But in the same way, if he do some good thing, you must promise it to give him a meal worm as a reward.
Umm... we call this as... "Classical Conditioning"

Let me tell you a secrete, I use "Classical Conditioning" to train my little girl when she was young. Since I trained her and used all of my day with her (even sleep together) yesterday I said to her to stop running, she stopped and just winking her eyes to me. (Like she wanna say "Papa, let me run with you papa")
