I use fleece liners for bedding, and in Omelette's litter box I put a layer of paper that I know is safe to use (whether it be newspaper or junk mail), then I put a thin layer of Carefresh. Because I have to agree, that stuff is expensive! I used to use aspen shavings, but one of the reasons I switched was because it would get stuck to everything. Including the carpet outside her cage. Carefresh gets stuck to fleece too, but it's always in bigger chunks, so it's easier to pull off.
