What I don't understand is why anyone would ever give up a hedgehog in the first place? They are perfect pets!
Some people buy pets because they are unique and interesting, but find out that the animal needs more time to become sociable than they are willing to spend. Hedgehogs will never meet you at the door with a wagging tail, the young hedgies are poop machines and then there are those quills. You'd think that fact they have quills might be a NO BRAINER but it isn't! So they have the animal for a month or so then get rid of it.
I know people who buy a new puppy more often than a new car! The puppy doesn't come house trained, he chews, he isn't walked, his behavior is out of control and then they get rid of him. But 6 months or so later, VIOLA there is a new ADORABLE baby animal of some kind. People like this drive me crazy. My mom raised us to belive that a pet is part of the family FOREVER! That's how so many animals end up needing good homes. Disgusting. Sorry for the rant. It's a sore topic for me.

Same here. I can't believe anybody would be dumb enough to go out and buy a pet without researching about it, thinking about it, making sure they can take care of it, and making sure they want it, including the cons, not just the pros. Also when people buy others a pet for Christmas or a birthday. REALLY bad idea. Unless of course they were only buying it for them after the gift receiver had already gone through the things mentioned above.
Pets: Timmy (M, neutered) and Smokey (F, spayed) the maine coon and something else rescue cats. Aureus (Unknown, called He) the goldfish. Pepper (F) and Briar (M) the hissing cockroaches. 4 Minnows, rescued from being live bait. My Pokemon forum: http://pokepatch.proboards81.com/index.cgi |
